Someone like Dougie Freeman.

I would rather have someone else, a real football man, run the transfer side of it, without his input

You forgot to bold the important bit. Would also rather have someone who actually has some experience as a director of football (or whatever DF is) than another "jobs for the boys" move by SP. He said his favorite Palace goal ever was scored by Freedman, then goes and hires the guy. I wonder if he hired him because he was the best man for the job, or for a different reason, waddya reckon?

Who would you have?

You have no idea what Freeman does or what transfers are being worked on or why they are not progressing. Its easier just to blindly criticize without any insight as to what is going on.

I would have someone other than Parish running the club if I could choose, I can google people running football clubs well around the world, as can you, I would have one of them (as opposed to someone who makes awful mistakes all the time, like Parish).

Freedman is fine but he should be autonomous and not be beholding to Parish for transfer decisions, or he should report to someone who knows what they are doing. Correct, we all only have the insight of what we can see with our own eyes (1) and what the people say (2). re 1 - we are in the midst of a massive injury crisis, on the back of the most mismanaged transfer window in the history of the club, on the back of the longest, most protracted and painful manager search I can ever remember, which yielded the worst managerial appointment in the history of the club. So Parish is really on a roll. Re (2) he basically admitted he never likes to sign a player except on the last day of the window because he thinks you cannot get value otherwise.

Firstly why reveal your thinking to people you are negotiating with, and secondly how about putting that nonsense aside for once and doing what is so blatantly obviously needed that a 3 year old could figure it out - we need more first team options NOW. Here we go again though, no urgency, no decisiveness, players linked all over the shop, this one having a medical, that one in a meeting with the club, blah blah blah. We should have signed at least 1 player by now to give the club a shot in the arm and give our manager something to be happy about.

Parish is doing a bloody fantastic job though. You really can’t deny that as we sit at the top table for our record breaking 5th straight year. I’d like to know how you’re measuring his failures against his success barometer of what I just mentioned. Because the successes far exceed the failures.

Life is not so simple. You clearly have not listened to the latest podcast. It’s really worth a listen and I defy you to not like Steve Parish more after hearing him speak at length about the club he loves.

I doubt that you have ever tried to buy a footballer, but you appear to think its as easy as buying a loaf of bread.
Unless you pay way over the value of the player, its obviously not easy. You have to find a player that can fit straight into the first team, the player needs to want to come, his club must want to sell ( if he is any good, why would they? ), need to negotiate via his agent, agree terms, get a medical done, our manager must agree to him being added to the squad.
Southampton are in the bottom 3, have £75m from Van Dyke sale, but have bought nobody and they held up as a wonderfully run club.

What successes? The only good hires he has made are well known names, anyone could hire Warnock, Allardyce, Pulis and Hodgson. The one time he tried to do something different he totally fouled it up with FDB. He has the right intentions on the business side of the club, but at the football side he is hopeless. Could you please list his successes, other than staying in the league, which has mostly been despite Parish rather than thanks to him. What other premier league chairman would have allowed us to walk out of the last transfer window with no keeper or strikers signed? We then sacked off a young keeper to make a squad space and didnt bring anyone in. Its amateur hour time and again.

My first comment on this thread stated that I had in fact just listened to Parish go on for about 2 hours on FYP. Please read it. It makes me more and more sure that Parish is not cut out for this line of work.

Dont mean to be glib but what makes you be so sure of that, have you signed any players? Please check Southampton's squad depth compared to ours, and their current injury list.

Yes you list all of the things that are hard about getting transfers done. They are the same factors which exist for every club, in every league, on the first or last day of a transfer window. Parish SHOULD have paid over the odds for Niasse or Tosun, and paid their high agent fee requests or whatever it was, because allowing us to only have 1 fit premier league striker is absolutely scandalous and negligent in the extreme, its real schoolboy stuff.

We have no clue when it comes to squad management or cohesive long term planning regarding transfers. Far too many players have no competition and that breeds complacency. I dont have a personal vendetta against Parish, I just want to see someone competent and capable to run the club properly. The last transfer window, and the FDB manager searches were not run competently or with any nous whatsoever, they were calamitous and amateurish.

In which case I wholeheartedly disagree with you.

Your reply about who you'd rather have in charge "I'd just google it". That's such a silly comment it's hard to know where to start. So, you just google a chairman and then they turn up, right?! A bit like UberEats, but with multimillionaires.

Maybe let's narrow it down. I'll ask you, who has done a better job as chairman of Crystal Palace than Steve Parish.

Goldberg, Noades, Jordan..... any others you can remember?

Maine, I concur with a lot of your criticisms of Parish and it's true that his escape artist managers have dug him and us out of the sh1t. I also agree that the money should've been paid out for either Tosun or Niasse, and looking at it Tosun was more acceptable to Parish going by the cheek of the relatives acting as Niasse's agents.

But the problem is that that was the traditional and conventional summer window and the January window is quite different. You're right the summer was a shambles, as it was the summer before, but it's unlikely it can be corrected until 2 days or 2 hours before the window closes.

By all means moan like a p*** star if on the 1st February we have only Benteke as a forward plus other vulnerabilities.
