Peter Taylor admits Crystal Palace aren't good enough to merit a place in the play-offs this season.
Taylor's side slumped to a 2-1 home defeat against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday that ended any lingering hopes of finishing in the top six.
Palace have been unable to mount a serious promotion challenge this season and Taylor believes the players simply haven't been consistent enough.
"I don't think we will make play-offs and we don't even deserve to," he said.
"If you get into the top six you have to be consistent and we haven't been this season. If we had won today we would have been 10 points off fourth place.
"If I'm honest I think we have too much to do."
The Eagles appeared set for a point when Clinton Morrison equalised with 10 minutes to go, but Wednesday stole the points in the final moments.
Taylor added: "It was a tough to get a result in difficult conditions and on our second-half performance we didn't deserve to win the game.
"I didn't like the second goal we conceded and that is the reason we are where we are."
