Crystal Palace reserves lost 2-1 away to West Ham in their opening match of the season.

The Eagles second string have pulled out of the Combination League due to the poor standard and will be playing Premier League opposition in friendlies over 2010/11.

Dean Austin's Palace took a 31st minute lead through triallist Sebastian Grax who got on the end of Calvin Andrew's flick-on to score.

The Hammers were on level terms inside a minute through Anthony Edgar who skinned three defenders before firing past keeper Lewis Price.

Eight minutes into the second half, Edgar converted Kieran Dyer's low cross from the edge of the area for what proved to be the winning goal.

Palace's next match will be announced soon, but home fixtures are due to be played at Bromley or Dulwich Hamlet.

Palace: Price, Holness, Nnamani, Holland, Bennett, Pinney, O'Keefe, Djilali, N'Diaye, Grax, Andrew.

Subs: Mann, Parsons, Wynter, Sekajja, Williamson-Murrell
