Crystal Palace sporting director Iain Moody has resigned from his post.

Newspaper reports claim Moody shared racist, sexist and homophobic texts with Malky Mackay when they were working together at Cardiff.

A statement on Palace's website read: "In light of the events of yesterday, Sporting Director, Iain Moody has tendered his resignation and it has been accepted with immediate effect. There will be no further comment from the club on this matter."

Moody and Mackay were both sacked by the Welsh club last season due to alleged misconduct and Cardiff sent a dossier to the Football Association to investigate.

The FA is still working through Cardiff's claims and it's believed that Palace were unaware of the allegations about Mackay when he was interviewed for the vacant manager's job at the weekend.

After Tony Pulis's shock departure last week, Mackay was favourite to take the reins at Selhurst Park and be reunited with Moody but that will not happen after this latest news.

Palace were found guilty of breaching Premier League rules over 'spygate' when Cardiff claimed Moody tried to obtain information about their line-up before the teams met in April.

The Eagles face a fine of up to £25,000 but Cardiff are pushing for further legal action. Meanwhile, Palace are still without a manager and media reports suggest Tim Sherwood is now in pole position.
