40 years ago. I remember this more than the Lewisham riots. Me Aunty Pam cried for days. A legend who bought black music to the masses in an acceptable (notwithstanding the hips) way.
In The Ghetto is one I've always late.

Elvis to me just meant sh1t films everyday during the school holidays and big sideburns. He didn't even write his own songs, did he? If he wasn't such a good looking b'stard I don't think we would have heard of him. Could sing though and swivel. Edited by Kermit8 (16 Aug 2017 10.49am)

Worst s**t ever taken. Out of curiosity, wasn't he 'fond of questionably young girls' ala Glitter.

Awful actor and music that meant nothing to me.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

My favourite Elvis song was the one he sung about his cake. In the gateaux
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

Glad it's not just me that doesn't get all the hype around Elvis, awful boring music. Maybe if I was born in the Elvis era I'd feel differently. Although I'd say the same about the Beatles as well

Before him you had crooners like Sinatra and then some great Black rock and rollers like Little Richard and Chuck Berry but Elvis took it to a new level in terms of popularity. He inspired a whole generation of singers and musicians.
