Biggest winner in the US election must be the gun lobby. What restrictions there were will be swiftly dismantled. Does that make you think twice about going to the USA? Fear not as tourists are going to be allowed to carry a small gun discreetly hidden. How reassuring I can't wait not to go there.

you have it wrong. gun lobby and gun makers were rooting for hillary big time. they made a ton of money and headway with blacula in office and would've been more of the same with hillary. no boogeyman to rail against now. but don't worry about coming here - it's not that you're allowed to carry a gun upon arrival. it's an expectation. hand out AK's at customs.

Your more likely to have a knife put up to your throat in Croydon than have gun thrust in your face in most parts of the USA...

Theresa May: “As far as I’m concerned, the Scottish people have had their vote, they voted in 2014 and a very clear message came through. Both the United Kingdom and the Scottish Government said they would abide by that.” Edited by Stuk (11 Nov 2016 4.38pm) Laughable to think that Theresa May should be trusted on anything much she says anyway, but even if she was trusted on this I find it very difficult to see how a government determined to oversee the democratic will of the people (re Brexit) could fail to recognise the democratic rights of a constituent part of the UK to make a choice? If the SNP win a majority (in both Scottish MPs and Scottish MEPs) with a manifesto pledge to call a second referendum on independence, there is no way that the government will reject it. Now I don't personally believe that the Scottish government would win that referendum, so I don't think they will call it. I don't think they'll call it until the polls suggest close to a 60:40 split in their favour. But if they choose to, Theresa May will not reject it.

They have shown their will, they voted to stay part of the UK. The end. They couldn't even win it by rigging the rules of it in their favour. Both lowering the voting age and occupying the "positive" sounding option.

Both lowering the voting age and occupying the "positive" sounding option. Good points....especially about SNP grabbing "Yes" If the Scots ever do vote for independence a potentially much less messy solution could be in the offing for the union though: England and Wales leave the UK, Scotland remains , this way England and Wales are automatically out of the EU, and Scotland gets to remain (with or without NI, not sure what to do with them in the situation), Scotland don't have to reapply. A lot of messy and expensive admin avoided for all parties.
