Lombardo and Matt Jansen...brilliant players!

Not fit enough to be a legend.
Max 5 good games.

Palace 13th 2017/18.

Agree abour Sir Steve but sorry Plane, Jim Cannon is a true legend too.

I'm sure some of the old timers might include Bert Head on their list.

Geoff Thomas is about the only other one in more recent times that I would also consider.

Sorry Hoof, forgot about JC, Bert is a good call but I was young at the time but in retrospect he did brilliantly with the limited resouces we had at that time.

Not so sure about GT, I remember the entire Palace crowd booing him when we palyed at Wolves (he had signed for them and I think he dissed the club in some way) in a play off (I think) game.

As you can see I haven't got time to check my facts and it's all from memory

In GT's book 'Riding Through The Storm' he says his biggest regret in Football was celebrating at Selhurst when he scored for Wolves. He loves palace and sees them very much as 'his club'. He was always a legend for me...and later events cemented that even more so.I gave him a big hug on the pitch at Villa Park in '90 too..the poor sod !!

I'm probably in a minority of one but what about Peter Taylor ? Maybe looking at this through rose tinted specs though cos my dad started taking me and my brother regularly in the early 70's and I remember the roar of the crowd as he steamed up the wing in his number 11 shirt.Maybe more hero than legend.Played for England while at Palace in the 3rd, think there's only a handfull who've done that (Johhny Byrne was one I believe ??).And what about the winner at Chelsea in the cup 76 ? Shame about his later involvment and the way that ended but still a bit of a Palace legend I reckon.

That was probably it, I was referring to the away game, so presuming the home game was a couple of weeks previous to that.

Every time I've seen him talking about 'us' since, he always refers to Palace as 'us'. A fantastic player and captain for Palace.

I was too busy crying tears of joy to get on the pitch that day

Up for a beer tonight

Yeah, think that's why he regretted it so much..he knew the bond he had with the Palace fans. Yep, always led from the front, always gave 100 % for Palace.Naw...you might blow me out like you did Friday night

This thread is embarrassing, Unless I am missing something (and I might have overlooked a mention) it contains the likes of Matt Jansen, who is not a Palace legend in anyone's wildest imagination, but not a single mention in four pages of Steve Kember who, surely, is a clear-cut choice in any list. Two stints with Palace, best player in our first promotion to the Premiership (arguably), legendary stints as manager and coach...put simply, part of the fabric of the club for nigh on three decades. And a local boy at that.

Len Chatterton should also be on the list. As should Side-O. Palace legends are not limited to the pitch.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Arthur Waite (Without him, we'd probably still be League 2)
Peter Simpson (Record Goalscoring machine)
Danny Butterfield (LB Perfect Hatrick)
Ian Wright (Non-League to All star, a story even fans of other clubs know).
Jim Cannon (games)
Joe Jackson (Because everyone says so)
Julian Speroni (three times player of the year)
Andy Johnson (magic goalscorer, top english goalscorer in the premiership)
Clinton Morrison (one man goal machine post war top goal scorer).
Nigel Martyn (England Number 1 whilst at the club).
Geoff Thomas (Inspirational legend)
Dougie Freedman (Relegation avoidance, once as player and twice in management).
Coppell (Most successful manager - administration savior).
Ade Adf**kingbadbuy (worst signing).
Razor Deadduck (fattest signing).
Alan Pardew (Makeweight, basis of one legend)

But if we ever built a statue it should be to Arthur Waite

All time legend - Jim 'more games than Milton Bradley' Cannon.

No Vince Hilaire?

I know you will all hate this but the man who saved this club from financial ruin was Ron Noades. If he hadn't sold the Whitehorse end to Sainsburys way back when most of the players already mentioned would have been playing elsewhere.
ok then Jim Cannon and Dave Swindlehurst.
Standing by for flak

Wasn't it Ray Bloye who sold the land to Sainsbury's iwith Arthur Daleyesque business skills?

Yes it was.

Bloye and Noades = Club Asset Strippers!

L Johannson..probably spelt that wrong...was head of UEFA at the time and he lifted Liverpool's European ban 3 years early on 8th April 1991...obviously after looking at the table and thinking who the fcuk are we! I remember the date as the season before was the semi at Villa and it's my sister's birthday! The only reason I wouldn't add Budgie to a list of legends is the fact he buggered off with El SMell to QPR hahahaha. Even though he wasn't with us long due to his gambling addiction so needed his percentage from a move, I would include Kenny Sansom.

Really? I thought he went to West Ham in 1962 but came back in 1967? Are we referring to the same Budgie?

No......... he means Burridge.

Kember has been mentioned.

This thread is about opinions, you have yours Syd, others have their own.

A lot of our younger fans will not be aware of the two you've championed sadly.
