According to Di Canio "I know Wes, he was the worst player against Stoke in the cup - he was far away the worst player, he made a rubbish performance. But I covered for him because we won 4-3. But what he did was not only the mistake, which can happen to anyone, but the arrogance when he started moaning to the other players - that was the worst thing for me. "A player that doesn't recognise his mistakes which were clear from miles away, he started moaning to his team-mates. Out there he behaved as the worst professional, arrogant, ignorant athlete I have ever seen. And if he doesn't come out and apologise to the fans, to the professionals in general, he is out from my team."I've met him and he seemed very grounded and professional. Edited by davereis101 (03 Sep 2012 8.58am) All a bit rich coming from one of the most arrogant, unprofessional and ignorant ex-players of a generation. Di Canio was, and is an arrogant, unprofessional ignorant ex-athelete, given to egotistical rants of self importance. What jamie said.
That's not the point. For a man like Di Canio to be accusing others of arrogance is, frankly, laughable.

Also the opinion that Di Canio is arrogant doesn't factor into whether he was right or wrong here.

Not harsh at all. Di Canio is a great manager who isn't afraid to stand up for himself. He's had a few incidents with players and that's because he won't back down and give players all the power. Players are very arrogant these days and need someone like Di Canio to keep them in line. He's the boss and if they don't play by his rules he's right to kick them out. Swindon has been on the up since he took charge and I have no doubt it's due to the discipline and respect he commands within the squad. If he feels a player is acting up its a great idea to name and shame them in the press rather than bow to their every wish and apologise to keep some spoilt brat happy. Besides Di Canio is a well respected former pro who enjoyed a great career in the PL. Wes Foderingham couldn't get a game at Palace. What does thatsay?Would have loved to have seen Di Canio handle the Tevez situationcome to think about it. It tells me he was a very young keeper and had the best keeper in the division ahead of him in Speroni and one of the Welsh national keepers ahead of him. What does it apparently tell you? It tells me he's not all that special. He's not a Jack Butland, Kasper Schmeichel or a Joe Hart a few years back. He was never anywhere near our first team. Besides I still stand by my point. Di Canio, known throughout football for a long successful career or Foderinham who up until, last year only we knew about. Firstly you've just shot yourself in the foot as Birmingham loaned out butland to a lower division, Joe Hart started in a lower division and schmeichel was also loaned out. So we loaned out Wes to get first team experience, then as we still had Julian we didn't need him and he needed first team football to develop. Secondly, no manager should treat a player like that. Our crowd would have gone mental if dougie took Julian off after 25 minutes on our opening day fixture. Di Canio is a fascist and most of all a hypocrite, it's not like he was unprofessional and an idiot when he was a player...oh wait, pushed a ref and lost control didn't he? If I was Wes, I'd jump ship, loads of other league one clubs would take a player with his ability.
The key there is loaned out. All goalkeepers in their younger days go through loan spells but my point is the club never saw Foderinham as a replacement for Speroni. Otherwise he would still be on our books but loaned out instead of sold. Speroni won't be playing forever and you would have thought that if Foderinham had that much potential he would have been kept by us to take over from Julian. Julian wasn't hauled off against Watford because he didn't make a massive error then proceed to shout and abuse other players. That's what pissed off Di Canio and rightly so. Speroni made an error and picked himself up and started playing again. He didn't shout at our outfield players for hoofing it long and giving away the ball every 2 passes. Di Canio was unpredictable as a player but I think he recognises those mistakes and shouldn't allow other players to act like idiots just because he used to do it.

coming from the guy who sulked and sat down during a west ham game and signalled harry redknapp to sub him off. That was very professional Edited by foreveraneagle (03 Sep 2012 11.23pm)

I would say that he is simply a nutter.

I doubt any of us know him as well as Di Canio who see's him nearly every day at the club. Probably a bigger back-story to this.

Erm, if Fodderingham is going to act like a complete t*** then he can expect to get a dressing down from his boss. Far too much petulance goes without criticism. Nip it in the bud and he won't do it again, simple. I like Di Canio as a manager. Yes he had his moments as a player but he's in a different role now so what was acceptable to him then is not now.
