Syd, acumen means making sound judgements. At a period in their lives Jordan and Goldberg made sound judgements and thus made a fortune in doing so. Stop making out there is a hidden meaning to the word to suit your flawed argument. I have flagged up a major issue here with regards to how previous owners have operated the club and why our owners may then think that they need to be cautious. I have called it and you have absolutely no come back apart from trying to cast doubt on my knowledge of the English language.

You are absolutely right that fundamental mistakes were made by Golburg and Jordan while in charge of Palace but neither were particularly astute in the businesses that made them wealthy either. The mobile phone business was really taking off around the time Jordan went into the business. The exact same can be said of Golburg in IT recruitment. Right place right time really. Intelligent men but hardly gurus.

Syd, please don't allow your degree and your perceived idea that you have some kind of superiority over people because you run your own business cloud the issue. Businesses are designed to make money. Profit. I may not have a degree but in this system of capitalism that is the primary concern of a business, to make money.

Simon Jordan, at one time in his life had a great deal of business acumen, as did Mark Goldberg. Football fcuked this up for them. Can't you get this into your head, or does your business acumen blind you from the realities cpfc 2010 face.

In one breath you reckon SJ had no business sense. In the other you want cpfc 2010 to behave exactly like a Goldberg/Jordan to deliver you with the signings you want, without considering the long term picture.

I trust cpfc 2010 and thank Christ you're not in charge. It's egos like yours that saw our club almost die not long back.

Do you know what the word acumen means because you seem to be confusing it with the word luck. You seem to be embarrassing yourself

Oh god! Yes I know what acumen means. It basically means making sound judgements. What I am saying is once upon a time the likes of Goldberg and Jordan had sound business acumen themselves. They then bought a football club!

Syd and others want our board to throw money at a situation like our previous owners above did. They are using their business acumen to realise such a policy can lead to disaster.

Fcuking hell; this site gets worse!

It is you that do not read/listen. No one want all money squandered, just a sensible investment in the two or three quality signings the squad need to stay up and that's not my just my opinion, it's Tony Pulis and I know damned sure he knows more about it than you do!
Compared to the £60m we get just for this season we could afford to do what Pulis is asking.

So who are the 3.?

What are you asking me for? Trying to make out I'm some sort of football know all? No, it's Tony Pulis you want for that one. He says he has targets and we need two or three quality additions.
What he says is good enough for me. He runs a football team, that's good enough for me. Is it not for you?

So, the manager knocks at your door and says I want Sissoko, and Rhodes. The board negotiate fees. Firstly Blackburn quote upwards of 10m for Rhodes and the player himself wants 40k a week. The board do the sums and worry this may well be too much. They try to negotiate but Rhodes' agent knows other clubs are interested too and tell him to hold out for 40k a week. Meanwhile the free transfer of Sissoko is proving hard. The player has been out the game since the summer and is asking for a two year deal on 30k a week. The board are willing to meet his demands if the player agrees to a 50% pay cut if we go down. The player's representatives walk away at this offer. What do you do at this point Syd? I am intrigued.

Why are we prepared to spend millions on bringing in players but then try to cap wages?

1 year deals on high wages for a couple of players wouldn't put us back in administration.

No one on here or at the club knows better than TP on how to survive the premier league. Surely if CPFC2010 want to compete and battle in order to stay up they should be listening to Pulis and getting in the players he requires.

At a period in their lives Jordan and Goldberg made sound judgements and thus made a fortune in doing so.

There is no evidence at all of the former. Only the latter. Indeed, Jordan's own account makes it very clear that his success was down to incredibly hard work, perfectionism, doggedness, and a willingness to ignore risk in pursuit of the big pay-off. Jordan had many things and some of them admirable, but as I said there is no evidence business acumen was ever one of them. That is something that if you have, you have. It doesn't come and go. What happened at Palace rather underlines this fact; that Jordan never had any acumen in the first place. If he had, he'd not have been so blinded by owning a football club that he'd blow all his money in one fell swoop.

Acumen, but the way, is NOT making sound judgments. It's being quick and, in particular, insightful. I don't think "insightful" is a word anyone has ever used in the same breath as Simon Jordan, even when talking about the phone business.

So now that you've managed to get me to spell it out and we've established that you don't know what acumen means, can we move on?

Edited by sydtheeagle (26 Jan 2014 8.47pm)

Showing insight means you can judge a situation. You're just getting stuck on semantics and making a pigs ear of it.

In bold is what you want cpfc2010 to do in order to be 'competitive'. Hope you get your signing soon though Syd. I honestly do.

Just tweeted by Browett: sizeable budget put asside, frustrating that nothing has fallen into place (nobodies fault). No one panicking including TP' #cpfc

A mate just text this to me as I don't do twitter. Read in to this what you will. Damage limitation? I think they sense many fans not happy otherwise why come out and say that?

Reading HOL lately is like logging on to a Conspiracy Theories website.

No one's got any actual facts or quotes and because the board are keeping quiet means they must be hiding something.

Rewind 5 months and nearly everyone on here said they hoped Palace had a good go, didn't get thrashed too often and didn't overspend.

We got over the hurdle of overhauling Derby's record lowest points, put in some spirited displays and hired one of the most experienced Premier League managers in the business.

Now, after signing 16 players in the last window the board are showing a lack of ambition by not signing a load more?

The comments are incredible "Only Palace could f*** up like this" etc. I know we're blinkered but blimey - have a chat with Luton fans, Wolves fans, Blackburn fans, Leeds fans, Bolton fans - there's loads of examples of clubs falling from grace.

After the gut-wrenching feeling of nearly going out of business I never want to see my club gambled away to satisfy the demands of impatient supporters.

The board took us from Administration to the Premier League - but it's all luck and not judgement. If only we could have the Coventry board or the Leeds board.

It's frustrating because we seem closer than ever before to staying up but can we do away with the 'Poor old Palace' threads based on nothing but guesswork and rumour?

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

According to the sunday people he is ready to walk out now
---------------------------------------------------------
And i for one wouldn't blame him at all.
What are we ? A social club for a jolly good drink up every other Saturday or a serious football club? Some of the people on this forum worry me.I started supporting our great club in 1971 I believe we are far better than some of our fans think we are. We are in the prem, lets at least try to stay there and back Tony Pulis, SPs is not a football guru , I bet I know more about footie than he does.Big rant over.

Everyone seems to be working themselves up into a complete frenzy about almost certainly nothing

Lazy journalism

Seriously - do you people honestly think that in those weeks that TP was negotiating with the club before joining, that they did not discuss transfer budget and policy up front

Deals take a while to sort out at this club, Palace cannot afford to not negotiate

Tony will know this because they took 4 weeks to appoint him

Still doesnt mean that he's not entitled to feel frustrated about things, im sure everyone is frustrated, but talk of fallouts and walkouts has to be a bit OTT.

Settle down!!!!!
