And if you think: I'll sit a couple of rows away from blocks A/B - must have an atmosphere - think again. Where I used to live at the back of Block B, you took standing and singing for granted. However, Block E... ahem. Sit down and shut up was the clear message from the pensioner's collective around me. Good view but never again.

Like all clubs, our traditional support comes from young working class males with roots in the local area and the more football is taken away from these sorts of people, the worse the atmosphere’s will become. Not a popular view but it’s true.

I would say the longer we stay in the premier league, the worse our amosphere will be. Look at the other sets of supporters in the division, even the away fans don't sing.

It's embarrassing the amount of plaudits our support gets. It says much more about the typical premiership atmosphere than about how noisey we are.
--------------------------------------------------------

That is more to do with proper fans being out priced with ticket costs.

Rubbish.

Are you saying that to be a proper fan you have to be poor?

Poor, not necessarily - but working class, yes.

This is also nonsense.

OP's question is irrelevant anyway as we're staying up.

Fighting talk. I approve.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

So what you're saying is that someone who is middle class is incapable of singing loudly?

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Not incapable, less likely to.

I'm not singling out the posh - older people, women and kids are all highly unlikely to improve the atmosphere.

It's housing class that matters

We should ban anyone new from applying for tickets from Purley, Woldingham and Carshalton Beeches.

The lads and ladies from New Addington, Thornton Heath Pond and Waddon should always take precedence.

It would get better. It has often been subdued this season.

Our support has been awesome for a few seasons now, but this season has pushed on even further, with recognition for other fans, players, managers, plaudits, etc., etc. We have also attracted new supports, which is a good thing, But will this continue next season if we do get relegated?

judging by previous years, taking into account the highs and lows... well, this is a question that doesn't need to be asked... only a newbie would ask this... (not saying you are)

If we go down our vocal support and those true Palace fans will continue to generate the atmosphere we are now famous for.
On the other hand if we continue in the Premier league we will be eventually sanitized by sky and fans who come for premiership football not Palace specifically.
It may take a few years, but eventually peoples expectations will rise, they will start moaning for getting a draw at home to the wet spams and such like. Start calling for the managers head after 1 or 2 defeats. Prawns will be bought by the ton load, there be a separate car park for the rich fans limos. The true working class faithful will feel even more marginalised their enthusiasm will waver and 1 by 1 they won't be so vocal and we'll go down, because our support right now is what is keeping us afloat.

...has nothing to do with how the team is performing, or what league we are in, the HF are doing it as much for themselves as the team and see themselves as a shinning example for other clubs, I see them getting bigger, because they are bringing excitement and camaraderie through the singing... and they are being fed by knowing that they pee all over every other teams support.

Funny, I thought it was our team and manager who were doing that.
