Its simple unless we start to beat the better sides which we have to play at home now we will be relegated.
We are not going to go away to the lesser teams and get much joy overall. We may nick 1 or 2 draws and maybe 1 away win, with our remaining away fixtures, but unless we start to beat the top sides which we have at home its Championship football next season.
We have to start to beat the top 8 sides at home with our remaining matches

We will have a much better chance of wins away at Sunderland Cardiff West Ham and Fulham than home wins against Man City and Chelsea and Liverpool I think.

Play like we did first half at White Hart Lane or at Man City then 9 points away from Selhurst is not impossible.

I might be the ultimate pessimist but whichever way I look at it I really cannot see us surviving.I realise some TV pundits have said we will stay up- lets hope they are right and I am hopelessly wrong !

What a doom and gloom monger you are, we still have to play 5 of the 8 other teams in the mix, personally I think we have a great chance of survival, we've averaged a point a game none of the sides below us have. it's about how we do against those clubs around us that will decide our fate.

Of our last 12 games we have a real chance of winning 6, of the other 6 we could pinch a point from 3 of those, only Man C, Chelsea, and Liverpool are bankers for no points.

I think 3rd from bottom will go down on goal difference and that team will most likely be the team with the 3rd worst goal difference. WE are in danger of being that team. Must win and win better.

I have said it before (countless times) and will say it again.

Our record against the bottom 11 teams away from home is played 5, won two, lost three. Two of the three defeats were pre TP.

We now have five games left, a far superior manager to IH and a better team thanks to the January signings.

Winning three of our away games should be very possible. Getting a draw or two on top not unlikely. I will settle for ten points from the away games.

That puts us on 36 points.

We should beat Villa at home and Southampton have little to play for. That is six more points putting us on 42.

Anthing else we get is bonus but irrelevant to survival.

We will stay up, just have some faith and stop fretting over the top nine teams.

After yesterday's games, some interesting facts and stand out run ins.

Sunderland have away games at Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man C, Man U, Norwich and Spurs.

Norwich last 4 games are Liverpool Man U (h) Chelsea Arsenal (h)

W Ham last 4 games are CPFC (h) WBA Spurs (h) Man C

CPFC only has Everton and Newcastle away in remaining 7 away games - the rest are at Swansea, Sunderland, Cardiff, West Ham and Fulham.

We have this in our destiny to survive (and hopefully by the time we play West Ham).

I still believe that its more down to other teams dropping points than us getting them, the problem seems to be that everyone else gets good results against side that they should not even put up a point against. But if we can stay above Norwich, fulham and sunderland between now and April think we will be ok.

You're implying that it's not in our hands. It is. This whole concept of other teams around us getting decent results to our detriment is a myth.

We stay up by getting points on the board, not by hoping that those around us f*ck up. It really is that simple.

Mathematically, is it not both?

Yet another troubling result by our rivals, this time Norwich beating Spurs. Our rivals keep winning these matches with ludicrous luck: their keeper makes a string of miraculous saves, the oppo keep missing blinding chances. Same again yesterday, with Adebayor and Soldano missing when it looked easier to score. When is this going to happen for us?

Fulham and Cardiff are doomed. So its a 1 in 4 chance that we will take the last relegation place. Pretty good odds for an Eagle and especially given the woeful start under Holloway.
.
and if we do survive in the Prem and keep Pulis, we will be safe by the end of March next season.

I agree in principal kermit, but we have to understand
Sunderland Cardiff West Ham and Fulham are at home and they are also fighting for their Premiership survival. These games will be just a difficult as the home ties of Man City and Chelsea and Liverpool. So we have to get the points from somewhere. Sunderland Cardiff West Ham and Fulham aren't going to just roll over, in fact i will be very suprised if we get more than 35% possession in these games. They will be looking at these games against Palace as must win games.

The problem seems to be that whilst we have taken just 1 point from 12 games against teams in the top 9, others around us are picking up points in these matches - e.g. Norwich drew with Man C and beat Spurs, West Ham drew at Chelsea, WBA won at Man U earlier in the season. We have to start picking up the odd point or two from these games, and may well need a surprise win against Chelsea, Liverpool or Man City to keep us up.

Totally agree with this. I know it's in our hands and we don't need to look at other results too much but Naarjjj beating Spurs yesterday was a very bad result for us. We need that 'big' win that all other teams have had. We cannot rely on picking up wins at the places we'll be going, they'll be fighting for their lives as well. I think we'll be ok if we can play like we have been, but after yesterday result and for no apparent reason I'm more worried than I've been for ages.
