Timid? Not quite what I saw.

Despite all of the media frenzy Manchester United are reigning Champions, currently sixth in the league and in the last sixteen of the Champions League. They have purchased only two players this season and that cost them seventy million pounds! Rooney and the rest of the side were bouyed by his new contract thus commitment to the club. Added to all this that was the strongest United side, and the most experienced, Moyes has put on the pitch all season.

Had we gone all gung-ho they would have put at least five past us. For the entire first half they were limited to a few chances and we actually matched them. We also did not concede in the first ten minutes after the break.

We gave it our best shot and we lost - no big shock. There are other far more winnable games left this season and we were NEVER going to win every game betweeen now and the seasons end.

Jedinak will be plaing in the World Cup finals. How many of their players will be doing the same - eight, nine, ten perhaps?

Sound analysis of the game and issues.

Totally agree with Booted Eagle. This puts things in perspective.

I admit I was very worried we would concede during the first few minutes of the second half, as that has happened a lot of times this season.

Palace played well, held their own for a large portion of the game, had a couple of chances that, had one or two gone in, could have changed the final outcome. Man United had to work hard for their win.

The penalty was the game changer. I don't blame Chamakh for that, he was a forward at the back trying to help out the defence, and he was unlucky.

Why was Chamakh unlucky ?
It was a rash challenge with his "Wrong" foot and was a definite penalty.I am sure he regrets his actions like we all do from time to time and I should know !!!

In terms of myself, I recall the song "My Way" - "Regrets I've had a few" but in my case NOT "Too few to mention" !!!!

I remember thinking after the Fulham game that we just didn't have any class in the side whereas yesterday we didn't have quite enough, a big leap forward in just a few months. I thought we were just behind in the first half but still had some decent chances and in the second (until the penalty) we were the better side.
Bit of a sickener yesterday but on reflection I think we have enough to stay up.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Since Nov. 30 we are top 8 in the league.
Timid and too respectful until 0-2.
We should have put pressure from the start.
The welcoming from the fans was amazing!

Nope. The gameplan was sound. Soak pressure, organised defence, hit them on the break, with the likelihood of us doing so increasing the longer the game was scoreless, as they would have chased for a winner more. If not for a rash challenge, it may have worked. So, no blame on Pulis, this is how we setup against top sides.

That is true but I thought we lacked a little bit of adventure. I'm not suggesting gung-ho but I think we could have threatened them more, gave them something to think about. It was a little bit to easy for them, they never really looked in trouble. If you take it we will lose to the top 6 teams then there is a case for being more adventurous? We could really do with the odd point again the top sides. To be honest I was a little disappointed yesterday, I thought we had a chance of getting a point.

I think we gave it our best shot, with a realistic gameplan. Man U really do have a galaxy of talent, and this was one of their best performances all season.

You make a reasonable point, but, we tried an adventurous approach at Anfield, and were 3 down before our second wind! There is a gulf in class, about 500 squillion pound or so of purchased class, so, we need a solid plan. It will work against most sides in this division.

The Liverpool game was under IH so that doesn't count as he was inept. True the money difference is massive and they had 3 top quality players in attack but I till think we could have gave them a it more to deal with. A point or two of the top sides means we can lose a game against the bottom teams and it not be a big loss.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

In fact we had more corners and shots on goal than they had !

Frankly I was disappointed in Manchester yesterday. Apart from Rooney I did not see anybody really special. Van Persie seemed off colour and Mata lost his way eventually. I thought Rooney was their only ace in the hole and he did have a good game. I would have liked us to have tested their defense because I'm not sure how solid they really are.

We need to change our gameplan against the big teams. Our tactics may seem to be the right ones but the truth is we haven't taken a single point unless you count Everton as one of the big'uns. All of our rivals have taken points off of the big teams. Im currently watching Norwich beating a lacklustre Spurs 1-0 and if they win they will go back above us courtesy of points they weren't expected to get. Our normal gameplan against anybody relies on us scoring the first goal, its like watching the same game over and over again, we spar with them well and then they knock us out. It could cost us in the end.

Just imagine if Murray's volley went in ! That would of been hell of a goal. Different game then after. No clumsy challenge from chamack? Could of been a different outcome. This one was on the players.

I think the game plan was good and working really well. You can't expect to concede a penalty. However I think we should have seen Gayle and Bolasie come on slightly earlier, they had a lot of energy and pace that could have exploited Ferdinand and Smalling for a longer time.
