When I saw caulker play last season I thought he looked very decent....those saying he got relegated, well yes. Cardiff did but he was probably their best outfield player by far.

8m is probably the going rate for a young decent English centre back with experience.

We're not going to find to many Scott dann type deals, we got very lucky there...if we want to push on these are the type of players we need to be signing...we don't need squad players, we've got enough of them...we need 3/4 players to instantly improve the starting 11.

Its obviously about the money, it certainly isn't for footballing reasons. Compare the two sides, if he wants to improve as a player, look at our record when Pulis arrived, worked wonders with our defence and shored it right up, Palace are no longer a step down to sign for after our season last time, QPR are a gamble and if he chooses them over us, let him go, Pulis will have another option surely.

Let's be honest here...qpr are a bigger draw than us.

New stadium coming, owners who will spend decent money on signings & wages.

If we're being completely honest they have as much chance of staying up this season as we do.

I love palace to bits but sometimes we have to take off the tinted specs, and look at things with a rational POV

Don't agree with you Brauny. We're finally looking to fulfil our massive potential. They on the other hand are just punching above their weight.

Recent history would suggest otherwise tho Brent...whether or not it is built on wealth is irellivent really.

We are doing things the correct way...but there's that old adage that nice guys finish last.

I don't want us to to go down the qpr route but they will attract players over us because of it,

If I'm honest, I'd rather have Caulker for 8 million than Maguire for anything over 2.5 million. Yes he's a good prospect, but he hasn't even played at championship level yet, let alone premier league. No way is he worth more than that. 8 million for Caulker is still a lot, but at least we would be getting a player with some PL experience.

PSG were banned from signing players and 2 days later bought Luiz. The whole thing is completely pointless.

Barcelona are technically banned and signed luiz Suarez

No place for ethics and morales in football, you either get with the dark arts or fail.

So were Chelsea for the whole Gael Kakuta saga. Clubs get banned, it goes to the Court of Sport Arbitration or whatever its called and the ban gets suspended until the final ruling which, considering how long ago Chelsea were actually banned, will take years.

Edited by JL85 (19 Jul 2014 9.08am)

Chelsea were banned by FIFA on 3rd Sept 2009 over the Kakuta signing, they appealed that decision to CAS (Court of Arbitration in Sport) which was their right, on 5th Feb 2010, only 5 months later they were cleared by CAS because French club Lens had failed to sign the player on contract, Chelsea paid Lens ±£800,000 they could have paid much less than they gave Lens, but Lens failure to provide the necessary contract meant they were entitled to only a nominal compensation payment as the player was only 15.

Steven Caulker let's see
1. Sold by Spurs, why?
2. Bought by Cardiff who were relegated.
3. Cardiff terrible defensive record last season which he seemed to be spared any blame.
4. When i witnessed his performances thought he seemed to be out of position and his distribution was poor.
5. His over inflated fee of 8 million pounds.

So in a nutshell why would anyone sign him let alone us, oh and he doesn't want to join Palace...

Hope he goes to QPR.....

Well said Gary.As I said early on in this thread,Caulker has too many minus points for an £8M player! What's the chances of him getting relegated twice in successive seasons? Ollie's Dad,Ash.

But what does any footballer care about a club having £80 million debt? As long as the club pays him what he wants.

I love the way we do things and the way our club is run, but it also means we will lose out in signing certain players - but at least we will always know that when players do arrive, it's because they want to play for Palace and not for x amount of money. That sits much better with me than some greedy over rated Premiership player arriving to just count the cash.
