So we are back to the question of value, and pards believes he will score goals in the Prem, then 6 Million is to behonest in the grand scheme of things f*** all.

Didn't we pay 7 for MaCarthur ? Pards clearly favours one big one small up front, hence Sanogo, he may be off match fitness just yet, Gestede will be ready to go, and to be honest the gap between the leagues in terms of quality is getting ever smaller, just look at the amount of close games in the cups this season,

According to Steve Parish we didn't pay anywhere near the quoted figure for McArthur and I'm not sure that I would agree that the gap between the Premiership and Championship is getting smaller and strikers like Cameron Jerome who struggled to score for us last year is now scoring goals for fun in the lower division

Exactly, in fact Cameron Jerome at the point has scored more goals this season than Rudy Gestede.

Thing is if he is one of Al's targets and the board fail to bring him in at 6 Million, then I'm afraid that says an awful lot.

I think it worth remembering that Leicester have just shelled out 9.7 Million Euro's on a very decent striker who was courting interestfrom Juve and Chelsea. Meanwhile we are haggling over 6 million for a championship player.

That to me speaks Volumes as to where we are in terms of competiting with other clubs in the bottom half of the table.

Competing is one thing, but mortgaging the clubs future on a player's perceived ability is another. If Leicesters manager & trainers cannot get this player into premiership mode pretty damned quick and get relegated, they will be history.

Ok but the two boys at Burnley are doing OK, as is Austin and our very own Clint Hill, I'm not saying the gap is incredibley close, just that over recent years, with parachute payments enabling championship clubs to get a little bit more bang for their buck it is closing and I think the fact that when a Championship side beats a Premierside in a cup, it's no longer considered the great giant killing feat that it once was.

If for instance Derby beat Aston Villa in a cup game would you be that surprised ? I wouldn't, so whilst there are players that have reached their limit in the championship, there are many more who make the crossover with ease, look no further than our very own Boliase, Jules, ward, Dann, Wilf, and so on, if you look at it that way you may get my point.

This is it,pardew did not come here to have his targets snatched away by other clubs because of haggling by the directors. We have seen this happen to often and should pay the money. Please do not undermine another manager and lose him due to false promises.

Which deals have fallen through as a consequence of the perceived ineptitude of the Board where the player has gone on to flourish elsewhere?

One caveat: not just offers made for players we like but those who would have actually come here a sensible offer been accepted [e.g. not Siggurdson who wanted to go back to Swansea and would have only come here for an uneconomic price]

I agree with you but the trick is knowing which players are capable of making the step up and which ones aren't although of the ones listed I think that Dann and Speroni have previous Premiership experience but they can be compensated by Gayle and Delaney who haven't but have adapted quite well to the top league

Get a grip son. When you (or your Dad) go out to buy a car, do you pay what the salesman says it's worth, take out a bigger loan than you can afford and get ripped off, or do you negotiate according to what you believe it's true value is to you?

When asked after the Burnley match, Pardew aid that the proce wa not a straight forward as the media would have us believe. There is a lot of haggling over prices, with the numbers changing frequently. I believe he has the support of the board and he is probably unwilling to pay over the top money for Gestede. Again, given the shenanigans associated with Venkys leads me to believe they want more than anyone, including Pardew, is willing to spend. If this isn't done by tomorrow, it might well not happen. Pardew isn't naive to set his sights one one or two targets, he has several. We have a saying on this side of the pond. Sometimes the best deal is the one you don't make.

Never worth £6 million in my opinion. Cam Jam has scored as many goals as him this season in the Championship and is Gestede really getting any of the plaudits, unlike Mcarthur who was regularly getting rave reviews on the radio ? Although he fits the mold for the team surely there are other strikers say in Europe for a lot less who also possibly fit ? A new striker will always be a gamble as we can't afford/none available a proven PL one but I feel the wider market of Europe would be a better bet than the Championship.

Rudy at a much younger age surely represents better value at 4/5million than the aging Frenchman Gomis available at a reported 9million.

Am I alone with this thinking.

Have I missed something?

Regards.
