Perhaps, but I suspect the loyalty from the chairman comes from the fact that Pardew has led us to two of the best seasons the club has had in its entire 111 year history.

Only two seasons have surpassed this record, when we came third in the league under Coppell in 1991, and when we took the cup final to a replay and came 15th in 1990.

Coppell also got us to 10th in 1992.

So far, Pardew has got us to 10th in 2015, matching Coppell and saving us from relegation at the same time. And he has got us to a Cup Final in 2016, and 15th in the league. matching Coppell.

So, of the clubs five best seasons in 111 years, three came under Coppell and two under Pardew.

I remember when we went down under Coppell and most fans wanted him to stay (although there were a few tossers who wanted rid), and quite right they were too given what he had done for us.

So, Pardew has played a role as player and manager in four out of five of our best ever seasons.

Some people on these boards talk about loyalty to players, etc., then many of those same people are quick to call for a player to be dropped or sold, or the manager to be sacked.

Results are crap, but the team look like they are still playing for the manager. Based on his record, I'm still backing him.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

well said.

but you could be on here all day trying to get thru to individual's like this.

sadly it's not just palace fans your trying to make see the obvious light...it's just pessimistic, argumentative, nastily sarcastic individuals who have way to much testosterone and not much else going on in their sad lives other than to call for the sacking of someone who has done a good job with a club our size in the best league in the world.

so we sack him. bring in a half decent foreign coach...then he has one good season making us finish 7th. then a bigger club nabs him and we then appoint Sam alladyce or millen then get relegated and forgotten.

that's what happens to a club like ours when you take chances to improve on a manager that is already doing an adequate job

if however we stick with him.....although he has taken us close at times...he has still proved he's a good bet at keeping us up either way.

it's the lesser of two evils and hopefully with a couple more transfer windows he can improve the depth of the squad...and that is really what is our problem. not much else. strength in depth.

we spent all summer chasing benteke. let's spend Jan sorting our left flank.

we will be OK.

I cannot see Pardew being sacked unless we hit rock bottom and by that I mean bottom of the league. I can see us staying up, by a knife edge, to give us another season in the PL and with it hopefully some better players.
I cant see any realistic names put forward anyway. Big Sam? Come on!

The trouble is that Parish has totally bought into Pardew's view that we have to change our style of play. The old style which kept us in the Prem and produced some of our best ever seasons ever is now deemed as wrong for some reason ??
Charlton made this very same mistake and have spiralled down ever since!

Although we have spent what for us historically is a huge amount of money we have not strengthened enough to adopt this new style. Our midfielders are just not good enough to both protect the defence and supply the forwards - the sort of players required for this job are all at the big money clubs.
Our success has been built on great team spirit, hard work and a system which got the best from the players we had.
The truth is we are not ready to adopt this new system because we don't have enough top players and although I can appreciate the wish to play more openly I know that it just won't work with the current squad. Parish and Pardew needs to realise this and go back to basics until we can get the right players in. If Pardew can't see this then he will have to go.

Intrested reading all the thoughts on AP. I'm a Newcastle fan but always had a soft spot for Palace until they signed Pardew as I can't stand the man.

I hope he's sacked as I think you'll be better off for it, get Allerdyce (hippo heed) before the mackems do.

Have you scored from any corners yet? At Newcastle his record was impossibly bad.
Was selling Gayle was good business? It was for us.

In my opinion AP is good when first comes in, with pulis' team he did OK but many of us toon fans said just wait till his second season as then he will be found out.

I can't bare that word 'transitional' when giving a manager time. It's pretending like something miraculous is going to happen despite the current crap performances and results. If the manager is good enough a month should be long enough for new players to gel and to get your ideas across.

Good post. You can look at it slightly differently though. Pardew took over from Warnock and basically got the Pulis team playing properly again. That took us to safety and momentum continued into the following season until injuries stopped it. He has never been able to get anywhere near the team playing to the same standard again. The cup final was a fun day out but masked the stats.

This transition stuff is rollocks, we have not changed in fact I think we bang it up to Benteke more now.

For the record I don't hate Pardew but I don't think he has attributes for the job and want a change.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

I have calmed down after the weekend now but still feel we have problems.
I agree that we should be thinking mid table as a Club right now and that doesn't mean pulling up trees all season.
I agree that I wouldn't want Sam Allardyce.
I agree that we got to an FA Cup Final and it was brilliant.
I agree no Manager is perfect and that we need to be careful what we wish for.
I agree that AP is almost certainly working hard and trying his best.
BUT
We are no longer a team with a plan.
We do not appeear to have a passion - maybe we never will until our backs are against the wall again?
We are dropping points to teams around us and we have to play Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal twice as well as some other good teams again - we cannot afford to be dropping these points now - the end of season run in is horrendous - have a look and see.
I do not feel that AP knows what to do.
He says we make terrible mistakes - it is for him to plan and eradicate them in training.
Something seems wrong - i have no idea what it is - whether it is him or the backroom team - but whatever it is it needs dealing with double quick.
His transfers on the whole have been poor - he just seems to buy players and then realise they are not good enough but by then they are tied up on long term contracts and it is too late.
Even Cabaye who is undoubtedly a very good player does not seem to tick - why not?
So many questions and so few answers.
I do also want to state that I and others are sick of being abused for questioning Pardew's ability to manage CPFC - this is a forum for views and discussion isn't it?
Just because we don't all agree doesn't make one set of fans wrong does it?
I want AP to succeed - trouble is I don't know how he will as he is a man without a plan.

I don't get why so many of you Newcastle fans are still obsessed with Pardew? If you hate him so much why do you go out of you way following comments about him on opposition fans websites? Mind boggling! Are you still kidding yourselves you were better without him? Because you weren't you got relegated!

Gayle was always respected by us and we all knew he had 20 goals in him at championship level , so nothing new there my friend. We got decent money that afforded us an England international in Townsend. Gayle had a good crack here under 4 different managers but still couldn't hold down a regular spot so not Pardews doing alone.

I personally wouldn't go near anyone who is corrupt and neither would the board I reckon. So big Sam is a big no personally.

I got to this word/sentence and stopped reading.

You're tellin me the team doesn't have passion? Coming from 2 goals down at Burnley and Sunderland plus the attempted fight back against Liverpool which was going to plan in the second half if not for wilfs penalty shout to be missed!

Abused? It's just a forum, man up!

As I say it's a concentration, focus thing. There's no jeopardy if you make a mistake. We need a hard nosed coach as number 2, someone who the players don't want to upset and then the mental side of the game will improve, I'm sure of it. It's up to AP to bring someone like that in.
