We know we’re never a passing/possession team and whenever we we’ve tried it, it hasn’t worked. But FdB has been brought in to try and go for it once again.

IF it works, it won’t be overnight and there will be a struggle before things get better. It’s obvious.

Faith and patience are required.

There are a few threads on here now saying that things aren't going well and fair enough, some feel that way but this is the stupidest of all if them.

Sack your manager after just one game in charge. LOL. We would be the laughing stock of the football world and rightly so.

We laugh at the weed when their fans talk of Europe and you come up with this.

And what kind of manager do you think we would get after sacking a manager after one game and having to pay off his three year contract.

There are already so many rival fans posting cr@p on here. Please get a life and go to your own forum, where you can happily post rubbish about your own team.

Isn't it time we were able to string more than six passes together ?

Although we could do with a couple of additions we've got a decent group of players particularly going forward if used correctly.

Making them overthink every pass will strangle instinctive play and kill confidence.

The most worrying thing about Saturday was de Boer's apparent arrogance regarding how tough the league is and lack of attention to the defensive organisation.

File this thread away for a while. You may have more reason to bump it in a month or so but not 1 match.

What baffles me is Parish winding the clock back with Sam to a similar style to Pulis, then winding the clock forward, no, throwing it up in the air and hoping it lands on the hook on the wall.

Then there is all the bollox spouted by Frank to get the job and in his interviews on the grass at Beckenham, all of which has gone out the window. 'Gradually, results over style.'

I am not confident for these reasons and the complete amateurish shambles vs the side promoted through th play offs, at home, losing 3-0. But you need to give him time. However, if it's as bad as this after 6 games I'd make serious contact with managers and make a change pronto, not leave it for another 6 or 12 games as is often the gamble.

A major concern with this system and our inability to make it work is that teams will quickly get our measure and press us into errors in very dangerous areas.
We will struggle to make it work "on the job" so to speak.
Very dangerous!

That or just let us have the ball and use their extra men to have our team completely marked up. That's why we could do with a centre back to bring the ball out. Hang on a minute. That's why it's always been Cabaye, Jimmy or Luka. Hell even back in the championship it was Owen Garvan.

There are too many loose links and unless it's a new team apart from about 3 players, the 3-4-3 is doomed. But you can pass the ball with 4 at the back, or play 3-5-2.

After the last three games, I must agree that 3-4-3 doesn't look like it fits our team.. To be honest I would rather see a more defensive style of play until we have the players / the tactical know how to play 3-4-3.
However, he is our new manager and we need to support him, bitching about him and booing our player will not help anyone. He's new to the league, has a very good record at Ajax and was an outstanding defender himself. If anyone should know how to train a defender it would be him, changing the mentality and defensive knowledge of players is not a simple feat. He can't change our team over night, anyone expecting that is away with the fairies. We should also remember that our team has 3 new players playing in the first team and they're still getting used to each other, Fosu-Mensah only joined us a few days before our first game!
As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, we can't afford to drop 15 points while waiting for de Boer to adjust, but I think that's a very negative way of thinking. It assumes that even if we do adjust successfully after having dropped those points, we wouldn't be able to perform at a high enough level to make up for the losses. After the last couple seasons I understand why Palace fans may be disappointed and unsure of... well... everything, but we need to stay positive!
I'm pretty sure that if we sign a good goalkeeper to replace Hennessey and a replacement for Ward, we can do well this season. I don't think we have a problem in Midfield, Mili is a talented and solid defensive player and Cabaye / RLC are also very good in their roles. The quality IS there. Our defence is better than last year, we may not have Sakho but Fosu-Mensah and Riedewald are good additions and I'd much rather have them than Kelly and Delaney.

Another thread. I suppose so much incisive thought needs an outlet somewhere, OP.

Like the last two contributors, I am expecting great things from our team when they get going. We do have a manager capable of sorting out defence, and turning defence into attack. Regarding only managing six passes I have no worries

A) one back three to middle four - two middle four to forward - three to best placed forward - four into goal

2) one goalkeeper to available player - two run or pass ball forward - three cross to player to score.

I keep seeing Ward high up in space on the wing, able to do damage. I expect FdB to encourage use of the wings (where there is expected to be space to play.

We do need to have more targets (who are there one moment and gone the next) for opposition to catch.

Next two tests Liverpool - who can score and also concede goals - and Ipswich - who may play a pressing Championship style - should take place (as more "pre-season" before we read any more negative comments. COYP
