Of course one gets the modern 'Indian' restaurants with neon lights etc etc but there are still the more traditional ones which I prefer.

I don't particularly like the large faceless restaurants that play 'Happy Birthday' whilst dimming down lights and presenting a cake.Much prefer the smaller 'Indians' - preferably with flock wallpaper !

100% with you on this. I miss the flock wallpaper and the tables lined up by the wall. And yes, those dishes you'd expect to pack a little punch (vindaloo, fal etc) are little more than glorified soup.

I think it's to satisfy the bland requirements of the generation of poofters, woofters and benders we've sired.

I quite like the spicy one.

I like a super king size mixed kebab with chicken, shish and döner on nan bread though. Lasts two dinners and a lunch. Could be improved by throwing in a couple of köfte, though. Yum.

I also like chicken satay from the Chinese.

If you ever visit a chippy in Scotland you need to know some lingo. Anything "supper" means with chips. A "supper" for lunch is perfectly sensible. "Single" anything means on its own without chips. Sausage always means two sausages; single sausage therefore means two sausages (not one) and no chips. "Special" fish means breadcrumbs instead of batter. "Crunchy" means with batter it wouldn't normally have, e.g. pizza. Deep-fried Mars bars in batter are not apocryphal.

You forget the Munchie box...

A (mostly Glasgow?) thing. A pizza box basically filled with fried stuff. It is like manna from heaven after a night on the pish...

HERE’S A TIP
Dont even think about Take a ways in Dawlish and I live here

Chinese 1
Asked for Chinese style spare ribs one.evening, actually watched the chef cook these Heinz tomato sauce and daddies brown sauce mixed with curry powder poured over them. (Never again)

Chinese two
Chinese by name all English chefs

Chinese 3
Asked if you have any allergies ( YES SEEDS ) but they take no notice of that... dishes still contained seeds

Kebabs
Never seen anything like it. Salad put in a bag, meat on one half of a burger box with the bap on the other side..then box closed IF You have chilli sauce it’s tipped over bap making it soggy. Must admit that first and last time I had a kebab down here 12years ago

Pizzas
Sick on a pavement only way I can explain.

Certainly not in the curry restaurants that I frequent !
Certainly get a bit red under the gills and brow sweats like an onion from the hot dishes that I consume.

When I frequent a Chinese restaurant, I always ask for some 'Chilli oil' to add heat to the dish.

Furthermore I always have a supply of red, green and Scotch bonnet chillies in the house, in addition to hot sauces. My dear wife says that the only meal I don't consume chillies with is when I eat eggs and bacon !

I do like my hot curries.

If there is a 'Chicken Phall' on the menu I will generally order it in preference to any other dish.
Once I sampled the delights of what was called a 'Gunpowder Kahlia' and it had a 'Kick' to it !

If there is no Phall but a vindaloo, I ask for "Chicken Vindaloo- extra hot".

I had a delicious 'Jungle curry' in a Thai restaurant the other night.Very hot !

Crikey, Willo, you are a ‘dark horse’! I’m a veritable ‘Park Player’ compared to your ‘Premier League’ status on the curry front!

To be truthful I don't place myself on any pedestal for the fact that I consume hot curries.

My dear wife sticks to far milder dishes, including Shashlik, and says that one can actually taste the flavours in the more milder curries. In actual fact when we first met in 1982, all I used to eat was Tandoori Chicken - one night when we were in an 'Indian' she said that I should really try alternatives instead of the same old dish and in my temulent state I ordered a 'Phall' much to her astonishment and she firmly advised me against it. Really enjoyed it and the rest as they say is history ! So I have been on the really hot dishes for nigh on 36 years !

willo,
out of interest,do you suffer with the 'feels like you've used your arsehole as brake whilst sliding down a razor blade' the next morning, after vindy or phall?
I can eat any heat and generally enjoy it(unless its powder crap) but boy the next day..
cant leave the house sometimes.
