When I worked in Sri Lanka the locals used to dig big pits in their fields to quarry semi precious stones which they would sell at the roadside. Electric cars are a complex algorithm. Battery technology is improving massively, giving faster charging, improved range and reduced cost. What also doesn't factor in a lot of meeja, is that you can do without a gearbox and clutch, giving a major weight saving. And without that massive fossil-fuelled lump and gearbox and fuel tank, you can also lose a lot of weight in the chassis. This all adds to battery range. You can theoretically use lighter weight body panels/structure of the vehicle because potential impact severity will be much reduced with the reduced mass of the vehicle. But would you make the vehicle of plastic ? That uses shed-loads of oil to manufacture, plus nasty chemicals. Battery technology and how the electricity to charge the vehicles is generated are big factors. It is no good charging your vehicle from an oil-fired power station source. Also you still have to factor in vehicle build costs and disposal of knackered batteries and end of vehicle life disposal. Good point about weight. Cars seem to be getting bigger hopefully manufacturers will reverse this trend. One more point

I think they will have to add a sound don't do they do that in electric FI cars?

Good point about weight. Cars seem to be getting bigger hopefully manufacturers will reverse this trend.

Electric cars without a sound generator will not gain Type Approval. Admittedly, in my case, it can and does get turned off. To compensate, I drive significantly slower, and in any case the car has autonomous braking together with an audible signal inside, so it's nearly impossible to collide with anything. When reversing, I turn it back on again, which emits a reversing chime, while I keep an eye on the screen, and an ear on the sensors.

What happens to all of the old Tech batteries? Are they recyclable - limitless? can they be disposed of safely - even if they Are recyclable it doesn't mean they will be recycled. We're just creating a problem for ourselves 20 years down the road. I'm with that fella who said the hydrogen engine is the way to go. Of the three technologies(elec, fossil + hydrogen), its by far the cleanest, and most sustainable. "It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"

What happens to all of the old Tech batteries? Are they recyclable - limitless? can they be disposed of safely - even if they Are recyclable it doesn't mean they will be recycled.

We're just creating a problem for ourselves 20 years down the road.

I'm with that fella who said the hydrogen engine is the way to go. Of the three technologies(elec, fossil + hydrogen), its by far the cleanest, and most sustainable.

Then through economics forces and innovative engineering we kept finding more. Now, we are saying that we don't want to use oil anymore. Whilst these are issues, they will be overcome. Just because there are problems, doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything.

Yep agree with that, but electric cars are being sold as the answer to being green - and good for the environment. They are a good immediate fix but one that may not be sustainable in their current guise.
