They won’t get very big because the football isn’t very good. Shorten the length of the pitches and it would improve the entertainment. The width of the pitches looks right but would possibly need to be looked at if the pitches were shortened.

Nothing to do with sexism, I don't care what sex they are as long as the football is good. The fact of the matter is women's football is Shyte. it's slow and to be honest boring, a decent pub Saturday side would beat our women's national team. I played in a very average Side in Cyprus (male) We played the Cypriot female national side, and we where 15-0 up at half time, at which point we mixed the sides up as it was utterly pointless. Men are just stronger by and large and physically better suited to sports like football etc. Whereas woman have better memories, that enable them to bring up exact transcripts of arguments from 6 years ago

It’s an argument that won’t go away any time soon. All the outlets will continue to dive disproportionate coverage to the female game. Potentially in the hope/aim that it will provide the easy access that will in turn drive long term viewing figures. I suspect that nobody really believes that the game is going anywhere, more that in todays cancel culture its something that you have to be seen to support. I’ve been part of big sponsorship conversations and the sponsors are well aware that there is no ROI I the women’s game. So, its almost likened to a CSR activity.

In the U.S. womens 'soccer' is huge as in participating & coverage, so, i wonder whether this has anything to do with the bbc & sky et al pushing it?

I suspect it might have something to do with the way the sporting system is set up in the US. At youth level, sport feels more ingrained in the culture. The fact that the local town will all go and watch the local collage team play on a Friday night. But just a hunch.

I agree wholeheartedly with the general thrust of the comments. Women's football is awful and the way it is being promoted really pretty silly. There are sports that women can play well which would make much better TV, so why football, and rugby, which they cannot? Until a couple of weeks ago I would have completely agreed with you, but I've been watching the England women's rugby team in their recent internationals and I'm converted. Far better than many men's games I see, with fewer stoppages, more open play, and kicking, passing and running skills that one cannot but admire. And this comes from someone who loved and played rugby and then for twenty years forked out for a debenture at Twickenham.

The problem is that Sky help to promote women's sport with disinformation. Sky were drooling over the attendances for the women's hundred competition without mentioning that as the games were played before the men's game most of the crowds had come to see the men play but had arrived early and caught some of the women's game too

To provide a counter point, my little girl is excited that women's football is getting more coverage and she has little interest in the men's game. There are now more girls playing football than ever before around the world and I think it's great they have some role models and can see there are opportunities if they work hard. What harm does it actually cause? Should all TV scheduling focus on the mainstream? What a bleak idea that would be: Mrs Brown's Boys presenting Great British Bake-off. Personally I am not interested in women's football but when men's football accounts for 99%+ of coverage through most media channels does it matter if Lineker promotes an upcoming women's game, or SKY gives some viagra to an advert? If it were just about viewing figures we'd be heading for that Super League, with the likes of Palace and Burnley being shown on highlights reels at midnight on ITV3. In terms of female pundits they all seem pretty knowledgeable and even better than some of the male ones (some of whom have the vocabulary of a pre-schooler). In a world in which Mark Lawrenson and Garth Crooks still get airtime and David Pleat gets pulled out of his tomb for major tournaments I don't think there can be too many complaints.
