My wife is a fan of Pierce Brosnan as Bond. I think I still plump for Connery, mainly because he more accurately fits Ian Fleming's characterisation. However, I do enjoy Craig's films, but they have moved the role into a new era, but still a long way from what goes on out there in the real world of espionage I suspect. Fleming didn't want him. He wanted someone more like himself, a David Niven type.

[Link] Personally, Connery was & still is my favourite, Moore was 'ok' made the yanks enjoy it more & was a housewives choice. Lazenby was a disaster, Dalton wasn't much better, Brosnan was far better & was disappointed he didn't sign for more, never got on with Craig too PC for my liking, tho i do agree with the poster who said he portrayed Bond for what he was, an assassin.

What really happened on cattle drives was this: Small Indian raiding parties preferred to sneak off a few cows under cover of darkness as they were starving (the buffalo had been wiped out). They tried to avoid a fight with the cowboys as they were poorly armed and outnumbered. Larger number of well armed Indians would run a protection racket e.g. if you want to come through here you have to give us a few cows or lose your herd. In general Indians would only attack white people if they had overwhelming odds hence the cliche of the wagon train or homestead being circled by Indians on horse back. Did you know that cowboys was originally a pejorative term? If you worked with cattle there were various terms such cattlemen, herdsmen, stevedores etc, it was a respected profession. Cowboys were cattle rustlers so if you called someone that and they weren't they would be insulted. Edited by Badger11 (02 Feb 2022 5.37pm)

The real job seems to involve sitting in an upstairs derelict hideout for seven days , staring through a telescopic lens, taking notes of car reg plates and all the while sh1tting in a bucket.

This is a question that's is almost always dependent on age. The older of us tend to root for Connery, those in their 40s and 50s seem to like Roger Moore and the nippers fight it out amongst themselves over Brosnan and Craig. I quite like Craig and Dalton was the closest they ever got to the literary Bond but.... .... Connery nails it for me.
