I dunno nick , Roy doesn’t seem to happy with the squad and has come out and said it publicly that we need more signings which is not like him . I think he is a bit disillusioned with it all . Then again arnt we all.

For me that indicated he has about as much say in the transfers as any of us CT! Hence his frustration matching our own.

When Roy was appointed I was unexpectedly pleased (given the situation) and am grateful for it now. The only negative I saw in it was that it quite probably reflected a lack of sincere intent for the transfer market. That grumble from Roy is probably the most extreme of his reactions. What manager would stay or indeed come in if they said ‘Free Transfers and Loans, plus we expect to lose a few key players, some money on a player we’ve watched for a while which has nothing to do with you and if you’re lucky, a few quid left over that we, and not you, will try our luck with’?

This of course is not reflective of the situation in reality only my guess at it. If we are ever to spend money again I’m (once again) guessing it will be at the end of this season if/when Roy’s successor arrives and we avoid relegation. I’d also guess that is no easy task itself as the transfer strategy sits somewhat separately to the managerial position and again, not many will be happy with that.

I suppose this may be the situation at a lot of clubs, except most of those do actually see a number of arrivals. Transfer strategy and execution lies with the club and the manager has to be aligned to and content with that. Poch will join Chelsea as he knows trillions will be spent, Palaces pool of willing candidates will be far smaller.

So apparently Dazza was not far wrong. Hall signed a pre-contract with Palace but Chelsea insisted he sin a new contract first. This he did, they then pulled the plug on the loan and have put him up for transfer for £30m Absolute scumbag club who youngsters should steer clear of

Absolute scumbags!

So they think a new manager coming in next summer might not want them?

I would take Southgate as manager next season Spiderman.

I wouldn’t want Southgate as Manager. I really don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough and we have to stop this ridiculous obsession with ex-players - especially those that aren’t actually very good. For me, he fits that bill and I reckon your average Sunday league football manager could get a tune out of the pick of the very best English players. He’s another Roy - just constantly picking his favourites as he thinks that’s ‘safe’ and then wondering why we don’t win anything, failing against the better teams. For example Maguire over MG. There’s a thread on here hoping we don’t sign Eric Dier because he’s s***. Well Southgate took him to the World Cup.
Personally I’d hate him as our manager.

That is a fair point Robbo.
Maybe I mean that we should do our best not to sell and take a massive financial risk?
Maybe that is just not feasible for us.
I can see us selling others - like Eze because they don't want to stay.
Appointing Roy was a massive backward step which stinks of short term thinking and as others have said, may not attract new players - who knows?

I don't think appointing Roy was a massive backward step, as there were few decent alternatives who wanted to come to Palace with the limited transfer budget on offer. To make matters worse the market has gone crazy, largely due to the Saudis and Chelsea, who between them are causing huge market inflation. We finished well last year, mainly thanks to Roy and it is clear to other clubs that we have some talented players who they are now targeting. Losing Zaha was a shame but manageable. However, it will be very worrying if we lose others, particularly if we don't secure realistic fees, generally a minimum of between £50-70m for our talented players. That's why Olise for £35m is so galling, as he's worth double that. I hope we can resist the predators by putting a high and currently realistic price on our guys. Then it is essential that any funds we obtain are used to reinvest in some decent replacements. What happened to our interest in Summerville at Leeds? Why not go for Nascimento as a striker? Let's see some movement please, Steve and Dougie.

Appointing Roy was a highly predictable step. Actually, it's the same as it ever was.

Yep looks like £30-35m to Newcastle, for a 19yo who has played 12 games. Both clubs are linked to PIF, Chelsea are pushing FFP, nothing to see here then!

On another thread a poster has speculated that Chelsea maybe trying to do a swap deal with us over Olise. In which case Hall's value will certainly be a negotiating point.

So perhaps the rumours that Newcastle are prepared to buy for £30m is more about our valuation of Hall rather than Newcastle actually paying that amount.

There is a problem with this in terms of FFP. Any cash that comes in for a developed player is cash which can be added to this seasons accounts in total. When a purchased player is sold the difference can be banked in terms of FFP. Where as the Olise money they pay out can be split over the term of the contract for FFP. Therefore, its better for them to sell Hall and pay for Olise.

UEFA FFP is different so if they qualify for europe next season they will have a massive issue unless they give someone a big brown envelope.

Meanwhile Newcastle sell ASM to a Saudi club owned by PIF for £23 million (probably half his value in today's market). At that price you know a host of clubs in Europe would have been interested, so I'd put money on that deal being incredibly suspect. It wouldn't surprise me to see a few Chelsea players go the same way like Ziyech and possibly even Sterling, the former of whom I'd happily see at Palace (another player ruined by the Chelsea system of stockpiling players like assets)
