Be careful of cyclists. They have a habit of riding in huge packs with the leader wearing yellow.

Or better still leave them at home!

That's what I'm currently doing for weekend visits, with the disclaimer that Heathrow and Gatwick don't allow pets in the terminals! On these weekends, it's worth opening the cans yourself, considering how much money I save when my wife doesn't go shopping in London on match days.....

wearing all the kit and dragging on 20 Gauloises

Unless you want to be targeted by the gendarmerie, hire a French car. GB plates are like catnip to the French rozzer.

You also definitely need spare light bulbs.

My advice is to travel very early during the holiday season because the traffic jams can be crazy.

What really bugs me is that you can make good time only to be held up at a toll booth for ages. Especially down south.

No. You must have a UK sticker, unless you have UK plates.

Yes, but you will still be a Clouseau magnet.

I have driven the length of France many times and have never been stopped by the Police.

Some of the driving, particularly in the south, is breathtakingly bad, so the gendarmes have their work cut out already.

I should add that I have driven in the US on several occasions and have managed to get pulled over by the five O twice. That is fun though and worth the fine, as long as you keep your hands where they can see them.

it is worth considering a toll tag for autoroutes, it saves a lot of time at toll booths and no messing with cards or money.

manufactured in the UK and good for QE2 bridge.

On the autoroute there is normally a radar sign for permanent speed checks, but not radar guns etc.

everything you need to know is here.

Drove in Corsica where encountered about half a dozen awful crashes with one with the giblets still being scraped out. Gendarmerie standing about bored and seen it all.
