In a way you can't blame him; injured and replaced. Johnstone took his chance - personally feel Johnstone better all round keeper. Coincided with generally better results for us.
Not to say that Guaita is a bad keeper - he'd be fine as a squad player. Frankly, this is the way football is and I guess it's worse for keepers as there can really only be one.
Some of the ones who've bench warmed for big teams are excellent. Kelleher and Henderson spring to mind.

What a disappointing way to end your Palace legacy.

Whole thing seems off though, signed a new 1 year extension in January & he's not far off being 37, what does he expect to happen?

I personally think Guaita has been a great keeper for us however Johnson is a little bit better and the back 4 trust him more.

Those hurrying Guiata out of the door may be interested to note that we’re linked with our former keeper McCarthy from Southampton this evening .
I know who I’d prefer in the squad.
Similarly I would prefer Zaha to e.g Gray and McArthur to Lerma.
I’m not seeking to be critical as I know it’s problematic for the club in terms of recruitment, but it’s difficult to reach any conclusion other than the squad is now weaker than last season and without significant funds it’s difficult to see how this can be redressed.

You've summed it up well. Seems bizarre.

Is not the future at 36. A player whose mistakes many turned a blind to & now a change to have a young English keeper in situ.

Overrated keeper for me. Terrible in the air and couldn’t kick snow off a rope.

Agreed. Hailed as a good shot stopper, but we said that about George Wood.
Poor kicking, didn't command his area & allowed a lot of balls to travel a long way across the box.

lol I tend to agree , for a big bloke he didnt like coming off his line to claim anything . Good shot stopper though when called upon which was never very often .

McCarthy if the rumours are right is a decent No 2 , it was a time ago but both he and Johnstone were in the England squad under Roy .

Still if he has downed tools i dont suppose the club are paying him and would have a good case to cancel his contract . Thanks Vicente but your finished as a Palace player ,do one

Doing us a favor, not a bad keeper good shot stopper but that's about it, one of the worse no 1s in the division, wouldn't get in any other prem team. Was always a position we could improve on anyway.

load of nonsense!

I think VG has been a good keeper for us however if he wants to go at his age we should let him.

I'm not happy with the sulks though, unprofessional.

To be fair nobody is hurrying him out the door.. He's put himself out of the door due to his behaviour by the sounds of it. As soon as a player refuses to play then they have to go I'm afraid.

I may be in a minority here , but for me Guiata is still the best keeper at the club.
He’s proven over a number of years for us, has been incredibly consistent and I can only recall one or two incidents where it would be fair to say his mistakes have cost us goals.
This is not to condone his behaviour if he has refused to play, but I would be inclined to reserve judgement until the full facts emerge.
Johnstone has done well over a dozen or so games and deserves his chance, but I would contend that Matthews is not serious competition at Premier League level.

It hasn’t been a great summer so far in terms of news.
Zaha off, Olise injured and then confirmation that clubs are ‘circling,’ speculation around our better players and now the Guiata issue.
The player we sign with tremendous fanfare , Franca, is injured and then there are the injuries to Hughes and Mitchell.
The squad looks stretched.
Roy says he very optimistic that the club will address this by the end of the window, but it sounds that it may go to the wire.
It may be that the fees for the likes of Gray and Adams will come down towards the end of the window and we will wait until the time suits the club.

However, I doubt that the squad at the end of the window will be as strong as the one that finished last season.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts.
