USA stepping back from it's support, with the UN security Council Resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, not being vetoed.

"Israel has cancelled a meeting in Washington after the US declined to veto a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza." (BBC website)

Way too little, far too late. Time and again, Western powers are devoid of influence in international conflict.

The reason for the abstention by the United States is probably because Biden is in trouble and losing his voter base, particularly young people, the street is not the political establishment and they are watching this.

And they must know their country is providing arms used in this genocide, I read 68% of Israel's needs.

Even so Biden is continuing, 100 shipments of military aid under 14 million dollars each to Israel since 7th October.

Of course, Israel will take no notice of the vote or bother about international law, as per usual.

7th October. Now that rings a bell, let me think if it may be the catalyst to this whole thing. Which ironically will happen again if the war isn’t completed to wipe out the perpetrators of the 7th oct event.

Genuinely seems about right. Glad you're embracing pragmatic policies.

But wait. The Us of A is also airdropping aid. Which is also killing people.

"Gaza’s Hamas-run government media office says 18 Palestinians have been killed while trying to collect desperately-needed aid that was airdropped over northern Gaza.

Twelve people drowned when they went into the sea to retrieve food packages, the other six were trampled to death in “stampedes” when other aid packages landed on the ground, a statement said.

It calls for “an immediate end" to airdrops, calling them "offensive, wrong, inappropriate and useless". (BBC Website)

Sad but hypocritical virtue signaling.

The only way to ensure relief reaches the intended target is to have UN troops on the ground ensuring it does that.

UN forces on the ground mean exposing soldiers of primarily rich, spoilt countries like ours to having body bags returned and a call for why are we there?

Given any UN deaths are about 90% likely to have been caused by the IDF (but will 100% be blamed by Israel on Hamas), this will take the situation to a place no Western power wants to go.

Not really, a lot of the UN soldiers are African or Asian these days. Western powers can pay them to do it. However, Israel will not be interested or cooperative.

I remember when denying aid to civilians was considered a war crime.

Point taken, but Kenya and Malaysia and countries close to them will raise merry hell if their troops are killed by Israeli drone strikes.

It is one thing killing tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians to get to hundreds of Hamas fighters. However, do you think the US, EU, China et al will stay mute when UN personnel - who are there for wholly humanitarian purposes - are being killed in barely discriminate air strikes into densely populated areas?

And if Israel continue on their path, their interest or co-operation may be of zero consideration. Intervention may be imposed and funding from Congress suspended.

Since the 7th tens of thousands of innocent people have lost their lives. To me, at the rudimental level, anyone who speaks out against that does so in the defence of humanity.

The whole intractable problem of Israel/Palestine itself exists precisely because very highly paid people (UN) undertook a road to hell out of good intentions.....A completely stupid one with predictable consequences of course but since when do non corruptible intelligent people ever rise to these positions.

It's something you see repeated almost ad nauseum.

Just like Syria, just like Iraq, just like Libya anyone sensible who doesn't just nod along to the bought media knows the best thing we can do is stay the hell out of it.

We own Israel nothing, we own Palestinians nothing, we owe the whole middle east nothing but trade.

Our elites are incompetents who make our client status with America as obvious as apple pie.

We need foreign influence out of our political class, America need foreign influence out of their political class and we should be trading with countries less interested in fueling blood feuds between peoples who can and will never co-habit on mass.....these are obvious disasters that have been created by ideology but it's fresh and blood people who suffer.

So who’s stopping it reaching the intended target? Israel or some group within Palestine who don’t not give a flying f*** about their own people.
Wont need poirot for that !

If all Hamas fighters surrender it all stops in Gaza.

Problem is there are many who view Hamas as plucky freedom fighters etc.

I am sure Israel would be more than happy to have a secure safe relationship with the Palestinians in Gaza and save billions on IDF spending.

It's likely impossible for the civilian population in Gaza to orchestrate an uprising as Hamas have had years to plan for all this.

Every civilian casualty is a tick in the box for Hamas as it keeps the circle of violence going.

Netanyahu wouldn't last long if the war stops

Not as many as you think, especially after Oct 7th, and certainly nobody whose voice counts.

The needle has moved from sympathy and anger for Israel to deep concern for the non combatant Palestinians.
