By highlighting. that line you take it out of context. For your own moan. The post is to do with enjoying football as played by Palace, regardless, of style , because it’s the club we have lived with and had our ups and downs with. football is not all about style anyway, it’s about winning often enough to maintain a level.
This is the finest , longest period this club has had in the highest league we have. It took us years of steady upward movement , with three or four severe set backs on the way. We were seeking re-election in the early fifties, and a forth division side in the early sixties, yet here we are. It’s taken a long time.
Any forward movement now will not happen over night unless we play winning football no matter what. If playing progressive football has a bigger risk of going backwards because , as is the case for so many in the Championship after trying it , it turns out you didn’t do it well enough.
Brentford , are a team can’t beat us so far I recall, in fact last season two absolute last minute goals gave them draws.
I agree with you recruitment in the last two years has not supported the better chances of achieving a top ten finish, and yes they do fly by the seat of their pants , with squad numbers, but the longer we don’t panic and try to make it happen ,by trying to be more stylish in our play when the squad doesn’t have the all round quality to do it, then the more chance we have got a proper platform when we finally make it happen. The price of getting it wrong is not worth the risk. of thinking we need to make entertainment top of our priorities. Ask Leicester, Southampton,, Leeds, all tried to be stylish entertainers , all where they are by not just grinding out some results when the style wasn’t actually good game practise anymore.

I am plugged-in to these sentiments.
A real 'Chef D'Oeuvre'.

We currently don’t have the tools to dominate the likes of Burnley , much as emotionally we may think we should be able to do so.
A front 3 of Ayew , Edouard and Schlupp is not going to consistently threaten any team in the Premier Legue.
A pedestrian midfield of Hughes , Doucoure and Lerma is not going to weave intricate patterns or make 70 yards run to support a lone striker.
None of this is to denigrate these players, but a realistic assessment of what they can offer.
You add Zaha, Olise and Eze and we become a different proposition but we haven’t had these available to us.
Furthermore, we have to face the possibility of players breaking down again and a club of our size can’t afford to have another Eze or Olise available when players get injured.
City can afford to have Foden and Grealish on the bench and are by no means alone in this regard.
Even the likes of Forest have a deeper squad than we have.

Nottm Forest have signed 14 players this season.
Last season they signed about 30 players but a number are no longer at the club.

I don't know when in the week JRS was injured but if it happened late that might have disrupted plans quite considerably which might account for the rather disjointed and negative football we saw. I'd also like to register a shout out for Ahamada who put in probably the best of his cameos to date for CPFC. In perticular his contribution to the second goal:- good interception, excellent first touch, smart thinking to set up the one two with Eze who I'm fairly sure thought the pass he tapped was back to Ahamada and all capped by most comemndably spotting Mitchell's run and holding back in favour of a team mate who would be (even) better placed.

A good manager adapts his style to the opposition and what players are available, hence the difference with a team with Wilf, Eze and Olise in it, and one without it, a concept that Vieira couldn't grasp, and Roy does with aplomb

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Roy defaults to his preferred 4 defenders, 3 DM's whenever the opportunity arises. Having the most creative players out through injury or suspension gives him that opportunity.
Beating a bottom 3 side by sticking everyone behind the ball, and doing well on the break offered up 3 valuable points, but it is hardly the way forward. Luton actually look a more formidable side.
We'll be able to tell better when all the players are fit.

Bit harsh NEILLO, for a Tuesday morning, though I do understand the criticism of the post.

There needs to be a differentiation between pragmatic football and more 'attractive styles' of play.

Burnley looked to be playing the more attractive 'style', I certainly thought so anyway and you can see what the thinking is behind it.

At 90mins however, we scored twice from very limited attacking play whilst they failed to score at all, and didn't really look as though they would.

I would suggest they do not having the personnel to effectively implement their desired 'style' or the finance to fund the resource. We do not either but even still have the better team, possibly even with numerous players missing.

Roy is able to pragmatically adapt to our circumstances, to deliver results, which is almost certainly why he was pulled out of retirement. Kompany at Burnley is sticking to his designs, but will almost certainly have them relegated.

It may not be the most exhilarating watch for us as fans, but the results speak for themselves and are far preferable to us trying something which would ultimately fail. Until such time we are able to go out and buy another 4/5 first team players, and that's before bolstering the squad, he's probably the best manager we could hope for.

I'm sure FdB had grand plans for more 'exciting' or 'attractive' football. That brief spell ended at Burnley coincidentally if I remember correctly?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Willo the definition of pedantic.

There is a c in front of the figures - stands for circa.

Obviously, the quoted transfer fees exclude agent fees and signing on bonuses - all will be 7 figures

Really? I think he’s pretty much spot on, apart from the Luton part, but in our current situation injury wise and after a couple of defeats I don’t see it as a criticism of Roy, it’s what he does best and why SP brought him back, gaining plenty of points against teams around or below us in the league.

Harsh but fair.

Hodgson's style may not be everybody's cup of tea but it gets results and that's the business he's in.

Surely we all know what resources he has available to him and therefore understand the choices he makes in terms of team selections and tactics ?

Anybody would think we had lost 0-2 the way some on here are behaving.
