By highlighting. that line you take it out of context. For your own moan. The post is to do with enjoying football as played by Palace, regardless, of style , because it’s the club we have lived with and had our ups and downs with. football is not all about style anyway, it’s about winning often enough to maintain a level.
This is the finest , longest period this club has had in the highest league we have. It took us years of steady upward movement , with three or four severe set backs on the way. We were seeking re-election in the early fifties, and a forth division side in the early sixties, yet here we are. It’s taken a long time.
Any forward movement now will not happen over night unless we play winning football no matter what. If playing progressive football has a bigger risk of going backwards because , as is the case for so many in the Championship after trying it , it turns out you didn’t do it well enough.
Brentford , are a team can’t beat us so far I recall, in fact last season two absolute last minute goals gave them draws.
I agree with you recruitment in the last two years has not supported the better chances of achieving a top ten finish, and yes they do fly by the seat of their pants , with squad numbers, but the longer we don’t panic and try to make it happen ,by trying to be more stylish in our play when the squad doesn’t have the all round quality to do it, then the more chance we have got a proper platform when we finally make it happen. The price of getting it wrong is not worth the risk. of thinking we need to make entertainment top of our priorities. Ask Leicester, Southampton,, Leeds, all tried to be stylish entertainers , all where they are by not just grinding out some results when the style wasn’t actually good game practise anymore.

you started your post with 'Palace entertain me' - not sure how i've taken that out of context.

Your Brentford comment is pointless - they finished well above us last season and are also above us now, despite a limited budget and the loss of their best 2 players.

This season we probably have the best GK, CB and CM 5 we have ever had (all internationals and proven PL performers) so i don't think it's too much to expect them to try and play some football and not time waste from minute 1. This season with the 3 coming up being so weak relegation is less of a concern. Surely now is the time to play 'progressive' football - it worked quite well the last 10 games of last season.

If we set up against Everton for 0.0 (as we've done v Forest and Fulham) and lose 1.0 to a deflected goal or similar, i suspect you will be the first to moan.

Really? I think he’s pretty much spot on, apart from the Luton part, but in our current situation injury wise and after a couple of defeats I don’t see it as a criticism of Roy, it’s what he does best and why SP brought him back, gaining plenty of points against teams around or below us in the league.

We win 2-0 away but '' it's hardly the way forward '' ?! What is that then exactly ??

I read it as a critisism of Roy, and then you list the points that SNH chooses to ignore....

Don't you think that the time to do that is when we have the players capable of doing so ? In the last 10 matches last season we had Zaha, Olise and Eze. We have had only one of those available since the start of the season, Eze, and he has been missing through injury recently.

I'm torn on whether we could do better with the players who have been available so far this season.
The points total is decent, but the performances frankly have been disappointing from an attacking standpoint.
Those defending Roy will say we only have a handful of excellent players in the absence of Olise and Eze, and none are in the attacking areas.
Thus, if anything , Roy is exceeding expectations they would contend.

On the other hand Leicester won the title with 5 excellent players with the rest of the team being made up by journeymen.
That would be the definition of exceeding expectations, albeit in circumstances unlikely to be repeated.

Perhaps it's fairer to reserve judgement until our best players return and see if we show more attacking intent and that if their return generates better perfotmances from others.

I’m sure he means that style of play in general is not the way forward. Not winning 2-0

The out of context was the actual line you highlighted. You quote, “Palace entertain me,” you didn’t indicate that interested you. And that in its self is also out of context, because I clearly tell. In the rest of the sentence why they entertain me.
I would suggest your Brentford comments are pointless , As of yet they don’t beat us in what ,five games, if they are better than us it’s marginal. We to have limited budget, and have been without a number of our best players all season.
I don’t say the team hasn’t any quality ,it has when everyone is fit. But that hasn’t been the case , and when it’s not the case putting an emphasis on attacking football is just not the way to get points in this league.
We played more on the front foot at the end of last season, because we had Olise, Saha, and Eze, With no Zaha, or Olize, the balance alters quiet a bit, Eze, has been and is our only real outlet, and he has been missing since the United win, it is what it is ,when you know how it is, why commit suicide by trying things you know you can’t do, when you do have the ability to win in other ways?
As Dyche is as artful as our Roy, he will probably want us to go for his throat. losing 1-0 to Everton is never out of the question, and I would be as pissed off as anyone else. But you miss the whole purpose of my posts on this . After watching Palace all my life from almost rock bottom to where we are now through thick and thin, the the sheer pleasure of seeing us entertaining some of the very best talent in world football, with some of the best players in our history is entertainment enough, if I want a constant flow of purest football I don’t expect Palace to supply it on their budget. And most of all football good on the eye of punters is not good in reality, if it does not bring success. The only good football is winning football, and I have told you who to ask if you don’t believe it ,most are not now Premiership teams.

I'm sure of that too, but look at the result. A 2-0 win.

Then look at the players available and it adds up to achieving a good result by adopting the most suitable tactics. Which is more or less what you said too !

Interesting that Tony Cascarino's Team of the Week in the Times yesterday featured Sam Johnstone and Tyrick Mitchell. Johnstone also got praise from other writers.

Clean sheets not just down to a solid defence and Johnstone's four
so far well earned.

Can't remember many goals conceded were his fault this season.

Thank you. Looks like the home truth is a bit much to bear for some folk, oh well. Also I'd like to clarify the "Luton" sentence - certainly more formidable than Burnley, and they seem to have their tails up at the moment and a giving it a good go. More formidable than Palace? Well no, that's not what I meant, but we'll see in a couple of games how that game is approached by Roy Hodgson, depending on player availability.
I do see a repeat in approach to his two woeful final seasons last time round. Maybe it's his remit, and he's sticking to it doggedly - PL for another year, position immaterial. For me, this doesn't represent progress. I can't blame Roy for the board. As another poster drily said elsewhere, Parish is happy with Roy as he doesn't have have to spend...

I posted earlier that although Andersen was voted MOM, I personally believed it was Johnstone. I think he's better than Guaita and possibly even Martyn or Speroni. Good reactions, good distribution, not weak on the high ball. Has the odd bad game, every goalie does, but he absolutely deserves an England place. Considering our playing out from the back approach - he's crucial, and far superior to Guaita for our style. Guaita was a great shot stopper but not the rest. The jury's out on Henderson, one day we'll probably see him.
