Went to the game with a couple pals and had a few drinks after with mutual West Ham mates. We all agreed- what a turgid game. But this is Roy.

We got a point and you have to respect it. They’re more annoyed with a draw than us. I was relieved.

Seen a genius comment in this thread- we have a weak squad but a strong 1st team.

It all starts and ends in the middle doesn’t it?
Hughes isn’t an attacking midfielder and Lerma’s gone backwards.

Personally I would have liked to have seen Ahamada on for Hughes and Franca for Eduard when substitutes were being made. But this is Roy…

Leaving aside the right full back position, and the absence of any competition for Edouard and Mateta, a fully fit first team is as good as anything in the mid table positions, and better than some below that.

Hughes is not an attacking midfield player, but he is an experienced midfield player. Lerma I think has done well recently. I'm not sure what you're expecting from him exactly.

Your suggestion of putting two raw ( certainly in Franca's case ) substitutes on in a tight game makes no sense to me.

I echo these sentiments.

Freeman is a fairly good judge of potential with Eze, Guehi and Olise recently. The difference is they all got some experience playing in the Championship, Franca is raw in a new country and needs time to settle and develop. The notion of just playing him and see what he can do is easy to say, but it could go very very wrong, if coaches who see him everyday dont think he is ready and he fails and his confidence gets shot to pieces.

FFS - Freedman should get some praise for bringing these guys in, but let's be honest, anyone with a half decent knowledge of the EFL knew all 3 were big talents. Guehi has been known since his England U17 winning performances and i think made the Champ team of the season. Olise was voted EFL young player of the year.

Brentford bought Watkins from Exeter for £1m and Toney from Posh for £5m - now that's identifying good, young talent.

i thought Hughes was awful, and has been for some time.
First goal summed it up - lost a 50.50 on the halfway line and then let the goalscorer walk past him later in the move so when the cross came in he was 5 yards behind the player.

It looked like Lerma was trying to push forward as Hughes was unable to do it and clearly that is not his natural role. Yes Adamada as the front of a 3 might be worth a try.

Also as Ozoh is a natural defensive midfielder disappointed he can't even make the bench.

BTW we talk about injuries, but noticed Spurs played two full backs at CB yesterday and still had a go. Imagine us we if didn't have Guehi and Andersen.

I think you'll find Holding is injured - couldn't make it up I know!
I would favour giving Ozoh a try. Looks strong.
Just to say Richards did ok out of position. May not be a solution for the rest of the season.

Went along yesterday and it's the first time I've ever been to the London Stadium. Thought it was an awful experience.

After first being pleasantly surprised at how close it was the Westfield / Stratford Station, my spirits were dampened at a 20 minute queue just to get through the security check.

We then spent another 20 or so minutes queuing to get into the ground, with them refusing to let more than about 50 of our fans through at a time which understandably pissed a lot of people off. Despite arriving around half an hour before KO, I didn't get to the seats until 10 minutes into the match.

Inside the ground (we were upper tier) I could not believe how far back we were from the pitch. There was an enormous empty area with no seats or anything between us and the pitch, needed bloody binoculars.

It was just as horrendous getting out of the ground and to the station afterwards.

Honestly, I know our ground has a bad rep and the facilities are s*** but that's one of the worst matchday experiences I've ever had. The only positive thing I can say is that we could stand up.

As for the game? Well, ending it with a 4-4-2 with Olise up front and Riedewald on the left wing just about summed this season and Roy up for me.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Couldn't agree more Canterbury, the London Stadium is awful
.Next season get Block 220 but no further back than about Row 30-40,you will still need binoculars but not so powerful.
Also from Stratford Station take the DLR back to Pudding Mill Lane it's much closer to the stadium, trains every few minutes.
Just glad that I'm not a West Ham fan going to that Stadium, ours may be old and outdated but it is a proper football ground.

How do you know Hodgson didn't support buying Franca ? I've not seen that reported anywhere. I assume you must have missed Franca's performances in a Palace shirt, because I've seen nothing to suggest that he's ready for first team football.

Richards played well as a DM. It doesn't necessarily follow that he would have been as impressive at right back. Ward has not put under any real scrutiny by West Ham, surprisingly.

And I think if Roy had made the subs you are suggesting, we might have lost the game.

Any player that isn’t selected by Roy automatically becomes a much better player in some people’s eyes. The fact that Franca is a youngster in a new country, just settling in, doesn’t matter just throw him in straight away and completely ruin his confidence.

As for the crying about the young players. Ahamada has shown nothing in appearances under PV and Roy, Franca was hopeless against Spurs (not just poor) and the idea that an under pressure manager should risk a valuable away point because a few fans on the internet want to see him is laughable. Rak Sakyi isn't good enough.

There was a groundswell amongst the fans imploring Roy to build a team around Max Meyer four years ago.

Have to agree re the squad - the moment more than 1 of the 1st X1 is out we struggle and i am envious of other teams who can make 4 or 5 changes in a game, whereas unless we have injuries you know there are only 1 or 2 'proper' options on our bench.

IMHO having highly paid players like Tomkins and Jairo in the squad is a just a waste as they so rarely play, and when they do are usually off the pace.

We lack creativity so if either Eze or Olise are not starting we are so one paced and predictable.
Jeff S has been shocking this season but we just have had no other options, which is just not acceptable at this level of football.

In terms of Ahamada, i think the guy needs time. He is young and has moved to a new country.

Against Bournemouth i don't think we can play the same 3 in midfield so if Schlupp is still not available i think he could play in front of 2 defensive CMs.

After describing yesterday's match as 'soporific' The Times' editorial team clearly decided that Palace were not worthy of a place in the Prem.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
