Really surprised with how poor he was today. First game on a new manager, wouldn't have impressed Ollie.

Good to see us keep pushing after going 1-0 up.

Subs were correct IMO.

We are still very inefficient with the ball, e.g. struggle to generate chances or play direct passes even when in good positions. One for the coaches to work on that's for sure

Good to see Franca beaming from ear to ear walking off. 2 assists in an efficient little cameo. He should be very
happy with that.

I do agree with you on some of the passings. We tend to send the ball to the flanks to attack even though there was space for centre through ball to the ball to two of our waiting players just outside the Burnley box.

And let's hear it for VAR ... three calls that all went our way. It will be a long long time before that happens again!

Lets not .

I haven't a clue what they were looking for with our second goal you could see Jordan was onside from the Whitehorse

The pen was clear cut , the ref was two yards away so what are they looking for ? Complete waste of time , both .Were they getting bored with having nothing to do and just got involved for the sake of it ?

The Burnley 'goal' was the only time it actually changed the on field decision and that was a 50/50 on whether the forward was interfering with play . Johnstone made no appeal at the time so he obviously didn't think so .

The only good thing about VAR is that it gives you time to go for a waz without missing any of the game

And we still need a striker

Very encouraging "start". Burnley were awful. We beat them easily. What's changed for the better? Someone who looks energised in the dug-out. Subs used much earlier than under Roy. Wing backs giving us pace and width. Mitchell suddenly looking comfortable going forward. Ayew and Munoz, Mitchell and Franca pairings look good. No Schlupp or Hughes. Richards a confident regular with Ward as an ok squad player. Johnstone in goal. Ayew adding quality to his amazing effort. JP looks like a half decent maurauding/hold-up centre forward. That's quite a lot! And Eze, Guehi and Olise to be added back to the mix over the coming weeks. Season run-in is transformed. I cant wait for the next games!

It is within the realms of possibility that the VAR check was concerning whether Mateta was in an offside position when the ball was crossed.

TBF I felt a sorry for the Burnley fans when VAR disallowed their "goal", not even getting a crumb from the game
You just knew it was going to be disallowed
The highlight of their game was the bloke running on the pitch doing making signs and getting tackled by a steward
Credit to them, its a long way to go when you know its hopeless, still many of us have had that experience

Well Ok having seen the highlights this morning its possible that the linesman might have missed it had Mateta been offside . But he didn't , the officials got it right as they usually do .

VAR is killing the game as a live spectacle ,you may have guessed Im not a fan of it

That is a very good point. And one I will consider when in need moving forwards.

Again. Play Edouard in the centre and he will score. He's out of position on the left. The reason he was played before instead of MAteta, is because that is where he plays best.

I agree Mateta had a good game today, but recently, he's looked slow and off the ball, mostly painful to watch.

Mateta is way outshining Edouard up top. His hold up play is immense and had Franca had the chance, Mateta was ready for a pass pre penalty.
Edouard disappears far too regularly. He is no good anywhere else than in the middle up front so he will probably revert to the bench in favour of Franca on the left from now on, and as back up to JP, who must surely be our number one target man for the rest of the season. I can see Edouard moving back to France in the summer with only one year left on his contract and a silly salary. He is far better suited to the game there.

Although we 'won' all four VARs yesterday, they really peie me off. They kill all the post goal excitement. They slow the game down. They make me late home. Terrible invention. Leave it to the ref and the linesmen. Law of averages make them just as good as those geeks in front of a screen. Get rid.

I know Richards has struggled with his hairdo all season, so maybe he will settle on the Frank Zappa look especially as he scored such a glorious goal with his bonce which maybe supercharged the ball into the back of the net.
Besides the goal, he had a very solid game. He is settling very well into the new formation.
