Good to have Ward back as he really is a captain. Bollocked Anderson when required and playing well. Sam clearly has the confidence of our back five. The use of our no. 9 Jordan on corners was a shock but worked well. JP is improving match by match. Wharton is a diamond and if we have Eze next week instead Eddy we could do something at Spurs.

I’d like to say that I told you so with regard to our teams management, but I’ll leave you to make your own mind up.

Yes, a great many had fallen for the fear factor: "What are we going to do without Roy / Wilf / Eze / Olise" etc etc, buying into Hodgson's doom and gloom brand of abysmal football and the "You've never had it so good" schtick.
Wish him well on his retirement but thank the lord he's gone and we can now look forward to seeing what these players are actually capable of.

I know Richards has struggled with his hairdo all season, so maybe he will settle on the Frank Zappa look especially as he scored such a glorious goal with his bonce which maybe supercharged the ball into the back of the net.
Besides the goal, he had a very solid game. He is settling very well into the new formation.

He resembles a microphone

Apparently he’s a big thin lizzy fan hence the Phil Lynott look….

TBF I felt a sorry for the Burnley fans when VAR disallowed their "goal", not even getting a crumb from the game
You just knew it was going to be disallowed
The highlight of their game was the bloke running on the pitch doing making signs and getting tackled by a steward
Credit to them, its a long way to go when you know its hopeless, still many of us have had that experience

Credit to them. They kept a sense of ( gallows) humour. During added time, when the ball was in their keeper's hands, they started singing "we've got the ball, we've got the ball"

My take on the game was we started well but did not make the most of the fast start and then the game got into a holding pattern with not much happening. In the second half Burnley showed a bit more intent but never threatened. Once we got the goal (and Ayew was behind most of our better pieces of play the game was never in doubt)
There were bits of the game that we can improve on. I think we got a lot of joy crossing from the right to the left hand edge of the 6 yard box. Munoz though might have distracted Edouard in the first half for his chance but he totally got in the way of Richards who would have almost certainly have got a second if Munoz left it.
At least the new manager used the subs to good effect particularly Franco and Ahamada who both made a different when they came on.
On a negative side i just had a feeling that at times we struggled to create a lot against a team down to 10 men and when their disallowed goal went in you just had a feeling on a bad day it could have been a game we lost despite a dominate display.

We were still missing Eze & Olise, but we pressured them constantly and that helped to get the sending off. I didn’t see it that “well we were struggling to create anything then got a lucky sending off and that’s why we won”. We were at it from the start, very positive showed far more intent than we’ve seen for a while. Nothing negative about Saturday for me.

I'm still thrilled.

I too felt a bit for Burnley, was not their day, but that was certainly a game that had the potential to leave the feeling 'well if we can't beat this lot, what hope is there for us?'.

Glasner has only been there a number of days, we have Guehi, Doucoure, Olise, Eze and possibly Anderson missing, but immediately the formation and team made us look something we have not for a very long time - a cohesive, modern, attacking side.

My hope for the future is high where before I always tried to be more of a 'realist' merely hoping to avoid the worst. I have great faith in Glasner almost immediately, was notable that many E.Frankfurt fans were leaving comments on our social media stating they missed him and still wish him all the best.

We should be safe this season, gawd forbid many of us may be looking forward to our games again, we have our biggest players yet to return and may see some investment for next season. Glad all over, Glasner all over, COYP, great win and here's hoping.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I know where you are coming from. My optimism under Glasner is that he'll try to correct this. In one of his interviews he was specifically asked about scoring without EE and MO, and he talked about getting more men in the box, patterns of play etc.

For me this is critical, and the 2ng goal optimised this. Mitchel with the confidence to bring the ball forward, nice combination with Franca. And JMP and Ayew busting a gut to get in the right position. Which in turn gives Franca something to aim at.

He was no doubt aiming at JPM, but Ayew was making hte run you want your opposite wide man to make. Getting in at the back post for anything that squeezes through. (and if you look at the wide shot Munoz is just behind Ayew too).

Feels like under Roy Franca has a double marked JMP to aim at.

I know it sounds trivial, but its all simple stuff, but a lot of it comes from a confidence, and a manger who is demanding that players take the right risk and get in dangerous positions.

The core of my first XI at season start comprised as follows.

Johnston
Anderson - Guehi
Doucoure
Eze - Olise

The other 5 can chop and change but keep this core and we can beat any team.

The most important for me is Doucoure. The definition of the unsung hero. The glue that binds and the base that facilitates both behind and ahead. A huge loss.

The keeper we have played several games without through choice!

Eze and Olise are very good mid table players, but together they are unplayable. They are effectively 3 players. This is something any big money buyer will lose out on unless they have an equally impressive linking player. You can probably count on one hand how many games they have played together fully match fit.

In fact, many games had only Anderson of that core team. You wonder we are where we are.

After Saturday, I am not sure this applies any more. Mitchell is a revelation as wing back, the two new boys have slotted in well, Lerma is showing why he was POTY for Bournemouth, Ayew was sorely missed while at AFCON, and who is that person who looks like JP? Ward performed brilliantly and only Edouard was off boil (but he has shown enough in the past to show what he can do).

And then there is Ahamada, Franca and now Richards having an outstanding game.

I am not getting carried away; but I am also not checking the EPL injury table every hour to see how close players are to return.

Ward or Richards will probably step aside for Guehi; but both will need to be told why. However, who is stepping aside as starter for Eze or Olise once fully match fit? And where and how do we play Franca and Ahamada?

How will you feel, when we lose to Spurs and Luton?

Beating a poor 10 man Burnley team is no yardstick of progress, we laboured to score until they tired around 70 minutes. Lets see how the next 2 games pan out, before getting carried away.
