I’m ashamed to confess , even ay my advanced age, that I was taken in by some of the stories involving the transfer of our players in recent weeks.
I was convinced we would lose a centre back - why else would we be ‘bidding’ for young expensive defenders if it wasn’t to replace a departing player?
I thought, as many on here also did, that Olise had gone.
More recently I had thought that Mateta would definitely leave last week.
Now the story emerging today is that Eze would have gone if Man City had topped up their £60 million offer by another £20 million.
I’m sure they could have found another £20 million down the back of the sofa so this story doesn’t ring true with me.
I hope when the transfer madness starts again in January that I will be a bit more sceptical about speculation, but can’t promise that I won’t be taken in by the hype again.
