Team news

On-loan Everton striker James Vaughan starts a three-match ban after his red card away to Derby at the weekend.

Anthony Gardner is still out with an ankle injury, so Claude Davis will keep his place in defence.

Full-backs David Wright (calf) and Lee Hills and winger Sean Scannell (both knee) are all still injured.

Cardiff star Craig Bellamy is out due to a knee injury that has kept him sidelined for the last three weeks, while Seyi Olofinjana has a thigh problem.

Quotes

Roy Hodgson

"Nobody is panicking. A number of things have gone against us so far and we have to stick together, not panic and be stronger away from home.

"It's a difficult league and we have got to hang in there, everyone realises it is going to be a fight to the end of the season. We looked through some of the goals we conceded on Saturday and learned from them.

"That's what it is about - trying to improve and not make the same mistakes as at the moment we are getting punished for individual errors. The things we are working on in training we have to take into the games, we cannot let them fly out of the window like we did on Saturday.

"We were too naive and the younger players started losing concentration. It's important we are 100 per cent focussed on the way we are going to be play."

Dave Jones

"We are second in the Championship but you wouldn’t believe it when you hear some people going on about how we are doing. We have hung in there and that’s what good teams do when they are below-par or have injuries.

"We are looking forward to getting everybody back and then we go again. Palace are coming off the back of losses and they are dangerous.

"Our squad has got stronger each season. We live in a part of the world where expectations are really high and we are still in second place.

"We are bouncing back after the heartfelt disappointment of last season’s play-offs and that shows good character. We’ve been up there challenging for three years and that is credit to the players."

Mark Hudson

"I was with Palace for four seasons. Managers have come and gone, people have come and gone.

"I don’t have that much of a tie with Palace, for me it’s about Cardiff picking up the points. I did bump into Palace owner Simon Jordan in London when things weren’t going well there – and he looked a little grey around the gills.

"But they survived and they are looking to kick-start their season. They will be fired up and ready for us, particularly after their defeat at Derby.

"The aim for everybody at Cardiff is automatic promotion. It’s a long season and we can’t get carried away, but we’ve started OK and are in second place.

"We haven’t played well over the last few games, but we worked to grind out a result against Millwall on Saturday.

"It’s clear our results against Leicester and Ipswich weren’t good enough. We had a meeting and worked on certain parts of our game.

"We didn’t play well against Millwall, but showed good character. Three points were the key."
