Ahamada developing well just not sure about Rak Saki.
To be fair, neither get much pitch time.

As Villa survived more and more chances for us to score a second goal, you kind of knew they'd stage a storming finish. Whether that would have denied us a point with better refereeing is debatable. If we'd got the draw I think we were good for then that would have been a very creditable result away from home to one of last season's stronger sides considering we started with three of the favourite stating 11 injured, saw Ayew limp off after 25 minutes and Andersen looked to be carrying a knock (no long diagonal balls at all, plus he wasn't at his best).

Taking off my Palace hat for a moment. When I saw the penalty incident in real time you can see why it was given but looking at it on replays CR gets a lot of the ball. I think it is a very harsh call.

Ref Watch on Sky this morning dealt with the issue most efficiently by ignoring it altogether. They briefly discussed whether Diaby should have got a penalty but no mention of anything else. Presumably even Dermot Gallagher couldn't defend the ref on this one.

This is what I thought.
Looks a harsh pen, but could be argued that CR fouled the player before taking the ball. VAR said he should see it again, and he did, seeing nothing clear enough to change his opinion.
We've all been asking for the ref to not blindly follow The VAR office, and this is the result.
It wasn't a blatent attempt by the attacker to dupe the ref into a pen, so It's a footballing incident. move on.

What we have been asking for, is that the ref and VAR make the correct decision. No doubt it looks a pen in real time. Certainly doesn’t when you look at it slowed down on a screen. Ref made the wrong decision after having time to re examine it. Villa being at home, crowd in his ear probably swayed it. Don’t believe we would have got that penalty if it was down Villa’s end after the ref had viewed it in my opinion. I think these decisions should be decided by the VAR but even then we have seen them making incorrect decisions :-(

Don't worry about the penalty decision. The problem is that Palace don't match the ambition of Villa. They had strength in depth on the bench, we have very little.

Wilf left, Olise injured, and Ayew went off. Our response is to bring on Mateta, put Schlupp wide right and leave Rak-Sakhi on the bench. The Brazilian wonder kid has not even appeared yet.

Joel got rinsed again at right back. We have needed a replacement since AWB left, but we spent £20m on a reserve keeper instead.

Yes we will stay up - Luton and Sheff U are very poor. Will we finish higher than 12th place - almost certainly not.

This way my overriding frustration. (Thought it probably was a pen TBF).

They made a lot of subs, we didnt. Eze was dead on his feat by about 70 mins. Think their fresh legs made the difference.

Noticed this too. It gets harder and harder to not come to the conclusion we don’t count for Sky. They had looked at every controversial incident across the weekend games, including as you say the non handball for Villa, the only really contentious moment in the game, and possibly one of the most contentious decisions of the weekend they completely ignore. It took five minutes to make what was almost certainly a wrong decision, yet Sky ignore it, and Millwall, think they ain’t liked.

The ref could never have been 100% positive after watching it back, and to give a pen that he knew full well would settle the result was highly questionable .

That makes no sense. Virtually all visits to the screen correctly result in an overturn. The crowd can hardly blame the ref if England had followed the norm, He can just shrug his shoulders and say "sorry Villa fans I did my best to give you the game"

It’s taken till this afternoon to get over that result on Saturday. I think the way the match panned out it just wasn’t going to be our day. The players out injured, Roy missing and Ayew going off after 20 minutes, capped it all.

Then to be leading up till the 87 minute and then conceding , just rubbed salt into the wound. The penalty fiasco has gone from my thoughts for the moment until something on a par happens again like that.

As for Villa they most probably deserved it, but I will watch what happens to them over the coming weeks to see how their fortunes go, and the same goes for Darren England he really has put himself top of the list on ref watch!
