If it wasn't this, Cameron would have found another fig leaf to use as an excuse.

It's just the bare-faced LIES which annoy me. Any other job you'd get punished. Politicians just tell outright lies and get away with it.

Why do you think the broadcasters or the other party leaders have a right to demand the PM do anything? He's not obliged to and neither are these debates A) Historical or B) Worthwhile.

What's he going to be punished for? Stating his opinion or terms?

I've calmed down a bit now.

I'm not naive enough to think you can have real honesty in public life. Today at work for example they announced they were sacking some senior people. "A mutual decision, different "strategic" focus, blah blah." Load of tosh and anyone with sense knew it. They were fat, lazy, overpaid and had to go. But you have to tell a room of 400 people a different story.

I accept Cameron can't say, "I am so desperate to stay in power I'd tell even bigger porkies if I had to."

It was just the bare-faced lies of Priti Patel, trotting out her 'line to take', when it was just SO obvious neither she nor anyone in the studio didn't believe a word of it which wound me up.

As I've said before all MPs should wear a badge saying "I'm a liar". Their spokesmen more so.

Telling it straight in any part of life is just like you've described it. Say what you mean at your peril.

Optimistic as ever

Cameron's current line is plainly pure politicking posturing. He exemplifies the majority of our political class across the spectrum from UKIP to Labour, principles being scarcer than a Bolasie goal.

Here's what he had to say in January 2013 when he was resisting UKIP demands to be part of any future Leader debate.Don't see any reference to the Greens, since it didn't suit his political manoeuvering at that point.

"David Cameron. told The House magazine “only parties that are going to form the government" should be included. This remark was made with a backdrop that UKIP have in many polls become overall third, pushing the Lib Dems into fourth place.

Mr Cameron said in an interview: "Obviously, we have to decide on this nearer the time, but the TV debates should be about, you know, the parties that are going to form the government, in my view."

Do the debate, invite Cameron, he either shows up or he doesn't.
If he doesn't, let the electorate decide what to make of that (I know what I'd think)

The Greens would have had Lee Rigby's killers released by now and asked ever so politely no to do it again.

F*cking nutters.

Thankfully they will always be a fringe party.

I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that.

Let's see what people do when they are in voting box, Gusset. No one with half a brain cell or who carries an iota of understanding of how civilised society works would vote for those middle class hippies.

If it is going to be a case of generically and stereotypically depicting "middle class hippies" at one end beyond the "old party" spectrum, then equally it should perhaps logically also be an accepted depiction by those doing so of middle class "banker types" beyond the other end of the spectrum.

Some people might suggest that those "middle aged hippies" have no understanding of how a civilised society works; others might suggest that "middle class banker types" have a very highly developed sense of how an uncivilised society works!

You are entitled to believe whatever you feel makes you superior.

The fact is, most UKIP supporters aren't bankers, a sizeable proportion aren't middle class. But that doesn't fit with your prejudice of what constitutes a UKIP voter, does it?

Matthew, you are similarly completely entitled to hold whatever views you believe make you feel "superior" including the view (however incorrect it might be in reality) that the views I or someone like me express make me/us feel superior. Don't judge others by different standards to how you would wish to be judged in terms of motives or feelings of supposed "superiority".

But,you miss the basic point I was making, quite apart from the fact your post (and therefore my response) was about the people voters vote for, ie the prominent politicians, not the voters themselves. You (or any of us) can't have it both ways by happily applying a generic stereotype to a party we disagree with but taking umbrage when someone then applies a similar one back to a party you support. So,if the stereotype about UKIP is not something you feel is legitimate to apply, think again about applying similar stereotypes to other parties, such as the Greens.

Yeah, but most of them are old. Reaaaally old, and so this whole 'anti-establishment' rhetoric is pretty hilarious.

I watched a thing with Reza Aslan, probably the most insightful Middle Eastern commentator around, who claimed ISIS were run by incredibly prominent intellectuals in Iraq and Syria who are incredibly adept at encouraging those from poorer backgrounds around the Middle East to join them by creating an 'other' figure that was demonised and distorted. I couldn't help but see certain similiarities...
