The EU (or common market) worked in it's original format where countries of roughly equal economies banded together for commerce on preferential terms.

Inviting Greece Romania etc to join was bound to upset the apple cart because their economies are/were weaker and it was inevitable that people would migrate to where the money is.

Farage does use the "fear of foreigners" card but unfortunately most of his claims are accurate. It is the inconvenient truth that other parties are too afraid to fully admit. Farage does use the "fear of foreigners" card but unfortunately most of his claims are accurate. It is the inconvenient truth that other parties are too afraid to fully admit. On the one hand, they make a token promise to control immigration numbers knowing full well they can't and then tell us how good immigration is for us on the other.
It's political hogwash.

To use your example, Greece was never in the Soviet Union, so why does he feel the need to mention certain countries' political background? Your last point I actually wholeheartedly agree with. Migratory flow, albeit inconsistent, is always going to pursue wealth. But I would argue that that's a far more compelling case for decentralising wealth than it is for some short term blockade of migration, which will simply lead to large-scale economic depravation in poor parts of the world, and weealth stagnation in richer parts of the world where the population ages and basic labour isn't adequately staffed (as you saw in Japan about a decade ago).
