A loan would be great however I just can't justify spending £10 million (as is rumoured) on a player in a position that we don't particularly need. An out and out striker and a centre back are this summers must buys for us. As much as a rate Cabaye, I can't help but feel we're spending for the sake of spending if it does happen. Get me Cisse and Micah Richards!

I see what you're saying, but a position we don't need? Jedi, Ledley and McArthur. That's it. Some would argue Guedioura, Mutch and Bannan? Jonny Williams? Mutch is decent back-up, Guedioura will go to Watford or go out on loan again so we're left with a problematic Bannan and an injury prone Williams.

We do need strengthening in that area, let's face it.

We really don't. Jedi McArthur, Ledley, yes. Mutch hasn't even cranked into gear yet - will come good. Guedioura - who says he's going to Watford? He's got a whole preseason to impress. Bannan, I'm not really sure how he's problematic? He's class. Williams, fair enough. Injury prone.

You also forgot the fact that Puncheon now plays in the centre. And Chamakh plays #10 too.

So we've got Jedinak, McArthur, Ledley, Guedioura, Bannan, Mutch, Williams, Puncheon and Chamakh (and Ward at a push), That's 9 players for 3 positions. And you don't think we've got depth there??

IN SAYING ALL OF THIS....to move forward...it's all about continually upgrading. And I have to say, Cabaye is definitely that. So would love to see him at Selhurst.

Pep and Bannan are not good enough I'm afraid.

Can't be sure but I don't think Pep and Bannan are going to figure in AP's plans.

At the end of the day, it's all about improving the squad, and a player of Cabaye's quality would definitely do that. You're talking about extra creativity, goals, and assists; and he'd do well sat alongside McArthur which would enable Puncheon to play further up.

With Cabaye, Ledley, McArthur, Jedinak, and Mutch we'd have a very strong midfield for the season ahead. Couple that with Bolasie (hopefully he'll stay), Zaha, and Puncheon then I'd be confident of a top 10 finish.

You say that Cabaye is a player we don't need yet mention Micah Richards, a right back and a position we're overloaded in, as a must buy? We already have Joel Ward, Adrian Mariappa, and even Jack Hunt; plus can't see Richards wanting to play second fiddle to Joel Ward,

Talking about positions we do/don't need... That's the case when you're signing squad players, but if you can (within your budget) sign someone that improves you, then you go for it. There is absolutely no doubt that Cabaye would improve our midfield and we should therefore sign him if we can.

But we can't. And we won't.

Someone of Cabaye's quality would be a stellar signing, right up there with Lombardo.
He was outstanding for Newcastle; his performance against Palace in last season's 0-3 was as good as any I've seen from an attacking midfielder.
Its a sign of just how far the club has moved forward in five seasons that we are being linked, apparently seriously, with some one of Cabaye's ability.
However, and I don't want to be unduly negative, there must be some questions. His move to PSG doesn't seem to have been a great success looking at his starts and appearances. Why? If my facts are right he cost PSG £22m with presumably a salary to match. Is it really feasible that after just 18 months his transfer fee and wages could be within Palace's budget? If they are, why might PSG be prepared to make such a large loss on their outlay?
That all said, just the prospect of signing him is exciting and its a real testimony to the ambition we are showing.
Here's hoping it happens!

Maybe Loren Blanc the PSG coach could'nt get the best out of him or the system they played didn't suit him.

Super Al clearly got the best out of him so if a deal can be done lets do it.

Alan ???

Agree - we have a strong in depth midfield provided we hold onto those we want to. We have plenty of work ethic, pace, unpredictably and skill in that mix - what we need to add now is some guile - when the Villa or Everton come to town next season and park 11 men behind the ball a player of Cabayes ilk and calibre could be the difference between 0 and 3pts.

Sod the apparent depth in our midfield; Cabaye would be a step above anyone else in that central/deeper role.

Wages would be a problem, but I can see him wanting to move. It's the Euro's at the end of this season, and he's hardly playing at PSG. He needs to playing regularly to force a way into the France team.

He played his best under AP, likes the BPL, would be a starter week-in, week-out and could probably be drawn to London too. There's a lot that make sense. On the flip side, he'd be leaving a Champions League team for Palace.

Yep, he said the other day that...

“It’s a peculiar moment in my career. I have never experienced this. I have to accept it but also try to change it. It’s super important for me, I want to play at the Euro. I have to speak to the national team coach about my future and to my representatives to see what is best for me.”

Think PSG would snap up £10m for him to invest in replacement(s) such as Pogba. It's just a matter of are we the best chance he has of getting Euro League, and will we offer a competitive wage. It'll be the right combination of both that'll determine where he goes.
