My mum always prided herself on her clean licence, and would 'tut tut' at me for collecting points for speeding.
in 1986 I passed my motorbike test and the next day, jumped on my Honda 400cc to take it for a blast. 10 minutes into the ride, I open up the throttle and go through the gears. What an adrenaline rush.

About 10 seconds later I was pulled by the police for 69mph in a 30 limit. Because I was over twice the speed limit, it went to Magistrates Court. I had to grovel to keep my licence. (which I'd only just sent off for)
3 points and £78 fine (all my savings)

A few years ago my mum got her first points for 38mph in a 30 limit, which made me smile

I've been on a speeding course, which teaches you how anti-social it is, and how it impacts local residents, pedestrians and other drivers. Does it actually save you any time ? not really

There are times and places to open the throttle, but opportunities are increasingly rare

I think the OP made the correct choice

Drove to Southend airport last Saturday, we met friends then flew to Portugal for 5 nights.
Got a letter earlier to say that i'd been caught speeding on the way, 48 in a 40mph zone.
I accept that i broke the speed limit, and yes i saw the signs etc etc........but on a dual carriageway with nobody else (within sniper shooting range) in sight at 4.30 in the bloody morning!
Not happy.

Being one of the older generation I can remember when it was just a matter of keeping your eyes peeled for police and in the early eighties I often used to drive at 150mph in my Porsche 928 on the long straight stretch of the M3 if there wasn't much traffic about but nowadays with all of the technology used to catch speedsters I don't bother any more as the odds are too heavily weighted against the driver
