Everything seems to point towards JPM leaving. I imagine then we'll sign someone to compete with OE. Eze and Olise would be a dream for a striker with positional sense and better movement.

Italian press say Mateta might join Genoa

L'Equipe french magazine already wrote that as well, saying Palace want £10M Euros, but Genoa ask for a loan with option to buy.

I still don’t hate Mateta and neither do I think he’s the worst striker we’ve ever had or even currently in the PL.

I have however been of the opinion that he is probably below the standard we need, desire or even require. I therefore don’t imagine that’s an enjoyable experience for him or indeed conducive to his improvement and the respective situation of the club and player.

If he does go I’ll wish him the best certainly but will not miss him greatly. If he does stay I can only imagine it will be as an option in the squad and a delay in his inevitable, eventual departure.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Combine Mateta's energy and willingness with Edouard's passing and shooting skill and we might have the makings of a half decent striker.

Unfortunately only one can play and I'd prefer Edouard, as does Hodgson.

Better still why not sell both (even at a loss) and invest
£20 million on a young man who has many more attributes and is an established international striker?

Viktor Gyokeres is the man with many of the Glenn Murray skills.

Rumoured he is on the 'interested list' of several big clubs at home and abroad.

Cant say I am disappointed about the departure of either or both of these "strikers". I know its hard to find strikers able to perform in this league, but these two are as much use as a pair of chocolate teapots.

Well he has scored a couple of good goals, the Leeds one in particular and he lays the ball off better than Mateta - admittedly
not a very great endorsement and his English is perhaps a little worse. So perhaps he can't understand instructions and looks a trifle lost!

Most of us agree - neither are PL strikers and we do need a decent replacement.

But both Vieira and Hodgson speak French.

It's a shame that his shooting skills with his boot doesn't match that of his skill with an air rifle

The full saying was either combine the two of them or take half of Brolin and you might get one striker. Combine all three and you'd get a fast Giant Haystacks who couldn't kick a ball to save his life. Would make the Human Centipede look like a good signing.
