JPM - He has little in game intelligence.

He doesn’t anticipate where the ball is going to be
He doesn’t close players down quickly enough
He is a slow thinker - on the back foot mentally
He doesn’t create space or opportunities

Needs to go - overstayed his welcome

OE

Trots around (languid style) doesn’t do enough
Life is both easy and comfortable for defenders
Disappointed in his time here - expected better

Needs to go - proved he is not the answer

This season Eduoard and Mateta have scored the grand total of 9 goals in 69 appearances.

I do believe there is a player there inside Edouard but I am yet to be convinced we will see that in a Palace shirt.

I am of the opinion that Mateta's contract extends to June 26.

It does indeed. Talk of him wanting to leave, for my game time and a loan May on the cards. Could be a good deal for all concerned

Mateta and Edouard can both go in my opinion. If you wrote the names of every single striker in the Premier League, put them in a hat and pulled two out, you'd do well to pull out a worse pair.

Edouard I think has the ability but lacks the effort a lot of the time. Mateta simply isn't good enough.

We need new midfielders but up front is by far the biggest area in which we could radically improve, there has to be a couple of young options in the Championship.

Over three years JPM has scored a goal every 263 minutes, beaten only by Wilf with a goal every 239 minutes. During this time he has been played an average of 37 minutes per match. Roy has only given him 63 minutes total in the last 10 matches. He dropped JPM after his Leicester goal, just as he did after the he scored in his debut against Brighton. After his treatment of Sorloth, who has now led his team into the Champions League, I suspect more egg on face for Roy and to some extent Vieira. We cannot afford a Firmino or top 6 striker so if we keep treating our forwards the way JPM has been treated we will never get into back into the top 10.
If you still think JPM is bad, what about Ayew who has just ‘won’ the title of Most Dispossessed Player in the Premier League (Wilf was second) and has scored a goal every 853 minutes over the last three years!

Both he and Edouard have proved to be lacking at PL level.

OE has scored a couple of decent goals, Mateta is all energy and bustle with little end product.

Both may do a 'Sorloth' with other clubs but we need a Glenn Murray replacement and the most skilful I've seen is Gyorkes who has good hold-up play, can lay on passes and can score.

True, not yet proven in the PL but if we don't sign him I am certain he will be in the PL next season.

Well said. I'm not for a moment suggesting that Mateta is the answer to our striking needs BUT he hasn't been given a decent run of games at any time during his time with us. I can well understand his frustration.

JPM was signed as cover for Bentake when cash was short to put an end to an appalling saga of failed sttempts to do so on which none of us wish to dwell but which stretched back to signing Wickham at the same time as CB. It takes a lot to make Roy criticise his colleagues in public but the non recruitment of a reserve striker achieved just that; he had a point; CB was our most expensive player but we struggled to get the best from him because whenever he joined or left the side, a radical formation change was enforced. As a poor man's Benteke (term borrowed from another HOL user at the time JPM as signed) he's not too bad and if he was even half as good as CB in the air he'd be quite good. He's never really looked much more than a decent enough reserve for a budget squad; a lot of the time he looks a bit out of his depth but occasionally he pulls something pretty good out of the hat and you wonder if he couldn't be helped to do that more often. The harsh truth is that the fact so many of us - myself definitely included - wished we'd seen him start more often is mainly a comment on how useless Edouard is. He also looks out of his depth much of the time but the bits that stick in the memory are more like last Sunday's debacle than anything quality.

Ability to do what? He can't make runs, can't score, can't hold the ball up, can't pass. He handed the ball to Forest today to give them their first goal. Then later, he missed an easy header for a goal. He was so bad that Roy subbed him out for Mateta after 60 minutes.

To score goals - which is the primary function of a striker, no? His run for his most recent goal (Eze pass) was excellent - as was the finish. And his finish against Leeds was equally impressive. This is what I mean. He's got it in his locker...he just doesn't seem like he can be bothered half the time. Which is inexcusable.

Am I the first to suggest driving him myself? Truth is I would be trampled in the rush to assist.

he would fit in well with all the other players there. And i would not fear his return visit to Selhurst in a blue shirt.

i would be pleased to see him lining up with Everton's best 11 men.

I would feel very different, you know what we’re like, he’s bound to have a blinder and score if he came back to selhurst with another team
