His other hits included The Last Farewell and New World in the Morning, and he sold nearly 50 million records around the world, his website said. (BBC) He had an excellent voice, one of my dads favorites He seemed an amiable cove although as a boy he must have left old Durham Town quite often if he spent his time on the banks of the Tyne.

The Last Farewell is very evocative. I didn't like all his stuff but his contribution to music provided a nice occasional escape from mainstream pop music.

There used to be place up west that did a dinner dance after a All the big stars of the day were at it at some time or another and I remember asking the old man how his night out had gone the next morning . (he had a broad yorkshire accent ) Reet bloody waste of me time that RIP RW
