About time he got a pay increase. The powers that be bring in a number 2 Goal keeper for 20 mill and put him on 100k per week and one of our best performing players last season and this is on 30k per week . My nose would be slightly of joint .

Agree entirely but what a strange world where we can be sympathetic to someone only earning 50x as much as those paying to watch him.

Great news. My take on it is that we should probably sell one of our top six every season (one of Guehi, Andersen, Doucoure, Johnstone, Eze or Olise) and try to discover two players to replace them. We bought each of them for or their value was roughly £10m-£20m when we signed them and there is no reason why we can’t find others for similar amounts.

The fact shouldn’t be ignored that a decent player from the Championship or other league that performs in the PL will almost definitely double or treble their value within a season or so. The secret to success of course is to attract them and in some cases take a bit of a risk.

Lerma probably has a decent value now, Mitchell too and Henderson will with fitness become valuable. These players along with Franca can become part of that high value group. We have to be realistic enough to realise that to get in more bodies we may have to lose one or two of our better players. If we can replace them with academy players then we’ve hit the jackpot but I reckon we are a few seasons off doing that just yet.

It's interesting isn't it? what would be a player's motivation for signing for Palace? Bigger salary? PL football? Stepping stone to a bigger club? the club will be caught between those high performers which it cannot do without and those it would have preferred not to sign. A dilemma, one which would require a stronger scouting outfit to sort the wheat from the chaff.

I would hope or suggest:

- Greater chance of first team football than at 'bigger' club
- PL football quite likely for the foreseeable
- Unlikely to be involved in a relegation battle (too sincerely)
- PL wages
- London base
- Family club/good support

Not saying that with any conviction BTW, just quite an off the cuff but direct response to that question. Does/should place us well for those players perhaps just a cut below those that would sign for your City, L'pool, Uniteds (plural), Arsenal, Chelsea etc.

Olise/Eze prime examples. Would either have received the playing time and therefore recognition they now have at a top 6 team? Perhaps, perhaps not.

If you were a young championship player now, Palace would not be a bad shout at all if you really thought you had the potential to establish yourself in 'the best league in the world' and played anywhere but GK or CB (right now).

A typically long post but also; Johnstone, Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure, Lerma, Eze, Olise, these are all very good players we have 'scouted' well for and not in a singular instance. That should provide some belief that it is 'doable' and we should continue in this manner.

There will always be a few duds, the odd Ferguson/Henderson who may never play a full game etc but even from here on in, if we unearth a couple of gems each window, we could be laughing going forward. I sincerely hope the next few are a RB, Winger and Striker.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I agree with you; my question was somewhat rhetorical, and the players you have highlighted show that there are a lot of good players out there who can make the grade and achieve regular first team football.

Another move in the right direction. The club does go forward, just very slowly.
This is a big deal though.

I wish they would update the club website, they are so slow.

Tomorrow, Im hoping there will be a lot of noise for our new long term star EE.

Along with Olise, that must be the best news this season. Now we just need Andersen and Guehi to follow suit.
With Doucoure Lerma Ayew Johnstone signed up already supported by our growing youngsters Ahamada Richards, R-S, Franca and our academy teams running riot we are starting to take serious shape.
Even Mitchell finding the net, and of course Schluppie and Hughes still throwing their weight around.

Well done SP and DF. Thing today are looking bright. Now go and thump the Toffees tomorrow.

Yep just to be clear I was somewhat piggybacking off your post SNH as opposed to contesting anything you'd written.

I'm thrilled, it's great news - [Link]

Ive seen the bbc's report, but, there is nothing on sky nor bt. There is a lot about the Brighton lad Evan Ferguson signing a new contract, just nothing about Eze, nor on the clubs website, strange.
