I would hazard a guess that for some of them it's because he's a successful Palace fan who has got things that they will never have (money, success, power and is a relatively young man who owns the club he supports) and that they will never be satisfied until he is gone and they can feel a bit better about their own lives again by comparison.

There also seems to be a touch of forgetting where we came from and in my opinion we deserve to go down because of what our fanbase has become now (fanbase, not supporters). I saw a stat that our promotion-winning side five years ago cost something like 3 million, yet now we go toe to toe with top sides, regularly spend over 20 million on a single player and are offering 100k+ on wages to top players (and getting them). Still, it's never enough and that is today's breed of football fan.

If you hate Parish then everything he's done has been terrible (including Holloway walking away and us getting Benteke and Sakho because they didn't come early enough in the window). If you love him then everything is forgivable, including us now having only one recognised striker in the 24 man squad. I would argue that maybe the true picture lies somewhere in the middle. I live with an Arsenal fan who is in disbelief at the farce their club is becoming and who looks at a club like Palace, which manages to stay true to it's roots and still progresses, with envious eyes.

There were always negative threads about Parish long before this transfer window and there always will be, regardless of what he does. Personally I think we have one of the only chairmen in the league who has the best interests of the club they own at heart and who has continually advanced us with to-be-expected bumps in the road. He will make mistakes, as does everyone, and there are things that people moan about that we're not entirely privy to. He deserves a lot better than some of the cr@p he gets on here though, shame on a lot of you.

I tend to agree with you, especially the opening paragraph.

This is exactly what it is. Bitterness and jealousy is rampant in our culture unfortunately.

My thoughts are he is doing what he thinks best for the club. He didn't have to take this on after the Simon Jordan debacle.

Considering what he is trying to compete with as in the Man Cities of this world, he is doing a great job.

Would the people doubting this rather have another Ron Noades or Simon Jordan???

Parish has made mistakes, but one thing that needs to be applauded is that we are now witnessing the most successful period in the history of Crystal Palace FC...Fact!!!

89-93 was more successful as we came third and had our very first FA Cup final appearance when that competition still meant a lot.

A good and interesting post.

How do you feel about 67% of the club now being owned by Americans and how do you feel Parish's and ex-CPFC2010 trio decision to allow that to have benefitted us and shown that Parish truly does have the best interests of the club at heart?

Quite right ... lest they forget! Very exciting times they were too and it might have amounted to much more had it not been for our 'new best friends' Liverpool getting English teams banned from Europe!

What a good post and I agree with every word. It seems to me we shouldnt forget the shere stress of running a PL,club. The fact that Palace escaped relegation (again) so narrowly maybe persuaded Parish to the conclusion that the playing style had to change towards a more possession oriented approach. This I think led to a situation where we ended up with a coach like FdB who doesnt really fit with the Palace culture and DNA. A very tricky situation. My guess is that Parish will grasp the nettle, sack FdB pretty quickly and bring in a manager who understands the Palace DNA and get back to it pretty quickly. We do now have Sackho full time, to provide leadership on the pitch, and two really excellent (loan unfortunately) signings in Fosu Mensah and Loftus Cheek. So, apart from no back up to Benteke, we have a really talented and powerful squad of players. His next challenge is I think to find the 'right manager for Palace' which I fear probably isnt FdB, and probably is, Hodgson.

They were exciting times indeed and that soon unravelled when Ron Noades sold the entire first team squad to fund/buy and build his golf course empire.
