Oh dear, I see we have got to the point where criticising the Israeli Government is anti-Semitic.

It seems that the sole issue put forward for the killing spree is Hamas but even Hamas no longer refer to their Charter and it is now often used by Jews to excuse genocide, even though Hamas has changed its views. However Hamas is a violent organisation born out of the violence of the environment.

The current conflict was precipitated by the murder of young adults / youths by both sides, and had nothing to with Hamas. The world attention on MY-17 seen as a good time to bury bad news.

The real issue for Hamas is that in the last 18 months all funding for Hamas has dried up leaving only Qatar as a funding stream. Hamas' time is limited and the issue is that the evil that will take its place is far worse. Without the traditional parties, the relatively moderate Sunni Palestinians will welcome ISIS similar to Sadam Husssein's minority ethnic tribes in Iraq.

Perhaps the economy of Israel has got so intertwined with militarism that they need an enemy to justify the US funding, the required "Lebensraum" and social structures within society.

Where's the evidence for Iran suddenly not funding Hamas then?....They are their biggest funder as far as I'm aware. I'd like to see that.

You say Hamas aren't referring to their charter??????

The only point of saying something like this is to give the impression that they don't follow or believe in it.

Only people looking for excuses come out with statements like this. Hamas are refusing to make any permanent peace with the state called Israel..This is an unacceptable fact which should not be downplayed....That has never changed and the constitution is there to read....Hamas can change it at anytime and instantly change the whole dynamic.

As for this suggested nonsense that if you criticise Israel you're accused of being an anti semite.

I've criticised Israel many times on this thread and also Matt has.....So your first sentence is clearly nonsense. I'm free to make my own judgements as to anti semitic language and attitudes and yes I believe I've read them on here...I take it I'm allowed that opinion.

So do you now agree Stirling, that Israel was in some way responsible for the rise of Hamas in Palestine? something you previously denied.

I don't know how I can make it any clearer.

All alone I stated that Israel help create an organization that eventually became what we call Hamas.

You linked to a page that stated that Israel deliberately created an enemy to fight with. Israel didn't create the 'Hamas' we see today whatsoever.

I regard any suggestion along those lines as deliberate misinformation.

Before I posted that link I also intimated that they deliberately set up Hamas for their own ends, you denied this.
Yet you agree with legaleagle who said pretty much the same thing.

I'm not sure I totally support that part of legal's post. I'm unsure to what extent them helping the set up of religious charities can really be related to 'rival organizations' for discord.

It's possible....I'm more supportative of legal's balanced and far more objective language.

Your posts are usually a million miles from that and my main attack is upon your suggestion that Israel knowingly created an enemy.....You believe that crap because you linked to it.

So you think it unfeasible that the perpetuation of war/conflict is not a means to keep people in power or to keep ones own population living in a degree of fear to achieve these ends?

I said I was unsure..You are talking about something that happened in 1973.....Probably something in it...But the idea that you can just create division where it doesn't already exist sounds a bit easy to me.....They probably saw the potential to support an alternative to the PLO.....Without having any idea what would eventually emerge.....I find it difficult to imagine that a militant religious Hamas wouldn't have happened regardless.....But they probably wouldn't have had that social element which gives extra support.

Iranian funding and knowledge sharing has dropped away subsequent to Hamas' failure to support the Syrian Government and Iran's thaw of relations with the US.

Come on Stirling keep up!

Without having any idea what would emerge is the key phrase. Some might say they did. As you point out, Hamas probably would have emerged anyway. Israel gave them a bit of a nudge.
Seems to me that countries leaders need to employ better contingency planners if they were unaware...

Another school hit. Full of sleeping kids. The U. N had informed Israel of its location yet they still fired on it!
How long does this have to go on for?

This is interesting, from 2009,re Israel's links with HAMAS or its anecedents early on, from the perspective of some Israelis. I wasn't trying to suggest Israel created or set up HAMAS.> Rather, that it had tried to use it at certain points, and encouraged its expansion and popularity, when it had suited its strategy.
