But it does make you wonder....

Neillo - I understand your hopeful thoughts but how could a qualified referee not give that decision in favour of Everton - the var ref was cheating and if that had been an Everton player it would have been a penalty.
There are dark forces at work in trying to assist the fight at the top of the table in my opinion.

But this isn’t really about the match referee - it’s about the VAR ref who didn’t have to make a decision in real time, had the benefit of slow motion and several angles and still got it wrong.

Spot on - the on field Ref didn't see it and fair enough on that but with VAR calling it they should have given a penalty.
Our one with the Liverpool penalty was even more of a joke but there again I am naturally biased both as a Palace fan and my dislike of the ever irritating Klopp!

I don't accept this at all.
If the ball had hit Rodri near his elbow or on the lower arm or hand a penalty would certainly have been awarded.
The 'Sleeve line', 'Bottom of the armpit' has been introduced and where the ball hit Rodri resulted in the VAR concluding that it was inconclusive as to whether the adjudication should be 'Handball'.
I recall a similar incident this season when Craig Dawson netted and the goal was allowed to stand.
Fine margins.

I believe I have already opined on HOL that when Jota and Guaita collided in my opinion the VAR adjudged that our goalkeeper then hauled Jota to the ground and accordingly awarded the penalty.
If Guaita had just fallen backwards the VAR might have concluded that it was Jota who fouled the keeper.

The picture Spiderman posted clearly shows a space between the sleeve and where the ball hit his arm. In the case of West Ham’s goal against Leicester game there was some debate over the actual length of Craig Dawson’s sleeve as opposed to other players’ which is carrying subjectivity too far.

Never had this notion of 'Sleeve line' 'T-Shirt line','Bottom of the armpit' in bygone days !
One heard words such as "Ball to hand or hand to ball?"

So each year sides order shirts with a sleeve 2" longer than the year before, enough of a difference to be helpful in situations like this but not enough to be noticeable.

The actual wording regarding handball mentions that the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit.

Or for extra insurance wear a long sleeved shirt and “Denis Law” it by pulling the sleeves down over the hand.

I have to laugh at this Willo -
If they cant see ( inconclusive evidence) that the ball hit his arm, how are they supposed to recognise the upper boundary of the arm.

(OK I am being a bit flippant) or is it facetious ?

My view for what it is worth (Probably not a lot !) is that the VAR has seen contact with the arm but adjudged that the actual position of contact is inconclusive based on 'Sleeve line', 'Bottom of the armpit' etc etc.

A lad in my school team used to do that. Thought it made him look cool. It did, but he scored plenty of goals so I guess it was justified.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
