Mrs hillbilly is the cook, so got a turkey crown ordered from M&S. Picking it up early Christmas Eve.

Got the tree decorated (see photo). Got a couple of cards from people, which is always nice.

Nipping to Aldi on Saturday to get a cooked ham,.....and hopefully cheap booze for Mrs H. Christmas Day isn't normal without a good booze-fuelled argument in late afternoon.

So, we're having a very Global-warming centred Christmas. cutting a tree down, picking holly from woodland bushes. Got a 2 tonne delivery of chopped wood coming next week for the open fire. That might last into January.
The few presents we have are probably manufactured in China on below living-standard wage, or other exploited workers from developing countries. Like the UK.

Looks like you’ve got a right old dog there

Turkey is overrated, a bit dry, but it’s traditional

Norfolk Black is a traditional bird, quite gamey too.

Got a Local society meal tonight. You have to order in advance, so i've gone for 3 courses (fat b'stad). Prawn cocktail, turkey and Christmas pud. Mrs H going too, but she's not even a member ?

Annoying television at the moment. All pre-recorded stuff (which is OK), but the amount of charity adverts is an absolute pl55-take.
I know some people and animals have many hardships in life, but after all the stuff people in the UK have been through recently, I don't think they'll find the Hillbilly household particularly giving. These adverts really dampen the Christmas mood.

That looks a splendid tree indeed. Is it real ? It looks so well proportioned. And the added touch of the mirror on the wall and the windows in the room, means the lights are reflected everywhere. Great effort

Thank you, it is artificial. Unfortunately I can take none of the credit, Mrs S is the one with taste (well she married me! )

I'm coasting into Christmas at work. Lots of menial stuff being shunted into 2023, with comments such as: "Don't they know there's a postal strike ?" , "Do they know how many working days are left before Christmas ?" "I've rung the subcontractor, but they're only doing emergency work until the end of the year now"

So , my hands are tied.

If you have a real tree, even if the roots are cut off, moisten/fill your container/base with lemonade, NOT water. The tree will last longer.
This is because the carbonated lemonade is more readily absorbed by the tree, and the sugars and salts in non-diet lemonade give better nourishment to the tree in its dying weeks ahead.
