If your catholic of course

I think if I were a Christian again I'd be a Catholic or Orthodox.

The protestants change their religion with the cultural eras and never seem to hold any line.

I did my first holy communion at about ten. Vicar could’ve touched me up I don’t remember but after that it went south. Tadpole Johnnys all over the drum in my yout.
So much for following the right path.

I don't believe in god but you make a good point about the C of E and some of the others.

I thought the whole point of religion was that it is your bedrock through life, family / friends / lovers / jobs all may change but your church doesn't.

So what is the point of a religion that is in a state of flux kinda defeats the object.

Fully agree.

Given the choice between religion and nihilism, religion is the least negative but probably the lesser truth.

Nihilism though is morally corrosive and ultimately destructive to humanity, whereas religion at least teaches positive communalities.....though, in my view, its Christian incantation has been ultimately corrupted with too much universalism.

Do people still buy stamps? I buy all my postage online. It's easier and cheaper

Friday was good, but more of that later.

Saturday saw the Hillbilly's trek to Aldi's, B&M's and Tesco.
Spent most money in Aldi's, cheap wine, biscuits, chocolates and treats. B&M's didn't really have anything more than Aldi's, we had to get a couple of bits from Tesco as only they do them. So that was 3 hours well spent.

Friday was great as Mrs Hillbilly had to "put our neighbour straight on a few things". Things have been brewing for a good few weeks over the way Mrs Neighbour has spoken to Mrs H, but Mrs H as always previously preferred a non-combative role with people.
Well Mrs Neighbour had to pin back her lugholes as Mrs H gave said some forthright things.
So now we're not speaking. And no chance of a Christmas card exchange. Christmas wouldn't be right without a good row with someone.

Update.

I thought I needed more stamps it turned out I didn't. Most of my cards are hand delivered I use Moonpig for sending cards abroad and 2 people requested an e-card to save the planet. So I am actually left with 3 old stamps without the bar code.

That looks like an explosive device, hard-wired into all the presents. If anyone shows even the slightest ingratitude, then the things gonna blow, taking out all of Christmas and New Year.
Probably just my mindset,.

Or to stop anyone attempting to open them early!

Mrs hillbilly is the cook, so got a turkey crown ordered from M&S. Picking it up early Christmas Eve.

Got the tree decorated (see photo). Got a couple of cards from people, which is always nice.

Nipping to Aldi on Saturday to get a cooked ham,.....and hopefully cheap booze for Mrs H. Christmas Day isn't normal without a good booze-fuelled argument in late afternoon.

So, we're having a very Global-warming centred Christmas. cutting a tree down, picking holly from woodland bushes. Got a 2 tonne delivery of chopped wood coming next week for the open fire. That might last into January.
The few presents we have are probably manufactured in China on below living-standard wage, or other exploited workers from developing countries. Like the UK.

The excessive amount of plastic, purchased with plastic, made in places where the workers just about afford to survive, unless someone gets ill, has made think for quite a while.

Much as a better wage should be the norm; that just about afford to survive is probably just what they have to survive. Go with morals and they could starve without the tiny amount they earn.
