The protestants change their religion with the cultural eras and never seem to hold any line.

There are plenty of unchanging, harder line protestants. The one in prison in Ireland for contempt of court is Church of Ireland (Anglican). The C of E has always been changeable, however. You can look at it as a via media, or as started by Henry just to get rid of a woman. Whichever way you look at it, it was always really Catholicism in the English language.

'The shortest history of England' by james Hawes, amazing book, first bits a bit tedious about denmark, Scandies etc in general, back n forth, but pretty good thereafter, should be used in schools.
Regarding Henry, totally understandable (if you met my first wife)
