The lady won Coach of the Year for guiding 'The Lionesses' towards 'making history' by winning the women's Euro tournament.

That same lady guided another country (the Netherlands) towards victory in the previous edition of the tournament, in 2017. Where was she in the Coach of the Year reckoning at the 2017 Sports Personality of The Year show? Answer: nowhere. Where were the mentions on the Netherlands 'making history' by breaking an unbroken stranglehold on the competition by Germany? Answer: nowhere!

I recall back in the day when the decathlon at the Olympic games barely got a mention in the media. It was some strange combination of events competed for by a group of mad Germans (East and West) and Soviet bloc athletes. Then along came Daley Thompson. Overnight the decathlon became the most important sporting challenge in the history of the world...ever! And Daley Thompson became "surely" the greatest athlete the world has ever seen (etc etc) never mind that reporters and journalists spouting such hyperbole wouldn't be able to name a previous winner of the decathlon gold medal without extensive research beforehand.

And don't get me started on Southgate winning Coach of the Year for England winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 3 matches at a World Cup!

Yes, it's definitely all about the narrative. We often don't win what we'd actually like to and so inflate other achievements to the point that's sertiously over the top . I guess on the flipside we're also not shy as a nation of bringing people down, so it all ends up with weird exaggerated reactions to everything all of the time.

You've made history there, with the greatest post any human being has ever made since the internet was invented. Enjoy it while you can though, because next week I will be dubbing you a talentless n'er-do-well

Why would the coach of Netherlands or team, who won a tournament, be mention on SPOTY, which is a British programme celebrating achievements in this country or representing the UK teams.

Besides that, its not the programme, it once was. Its far too woke, you could of got very short odds on a woman winning and there being 3 women nominated. Ben Stokes should of won, turning a failing English Test team onto 9 wins in 10 matches.

Is the right answer.

Horrific virtue signalling bilge.

Yes, well you've completely missed my point about sporting achievements being "the greatest ever" simply because they are achievements by people representing the UK or within the UK.

Just out of curiosity I googled what both the main BBC & ITV channels were showing for their main Xmas fare, what an absolute crock of crap lol.
In fairness ITV 4 has some decent old movies if that's your thing.
