Crystal Palace went down 2-0 to league leaders Southampton.

Dougie Freedman opted to field 5 academy products in the starting line-up against The Saints - Nathaniel Clyne, Wilfried Zaha, Matthew Parsons, Kyle De Silva and Sean Scannell.

The Eagles had a good amount of possession in the first half, De Silva and Kagisho Dikgacoi having efforts which were brilliantly saved by Kelvin Davis.

However it was south coast outfit which took the lead going into the break - an excellent deep cross from former Palace defender DANNY BUTTERFIELD was headed in by Championship top scorer Ricky Lambert.

In first half injury time Chris Martin had a glorious chance to equalise but his shot went over the bar.

In the second half Southampton extended their lead 11 minutes in - Dikgacoi was caught in possession by Adam Lallana who fed the ball to Lambert who found space to drill a shot past Julian Speroni.

Martin had another couple of chances to get a goal back for the home side but failed to convert them.

The game ended 0-2 and signalled a third straight defeat for the Eagles.
