Use of private information policy (GDPR)

Summary

We respect the EU's General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and this policy explains how we collect and treat any information you give us. You won't find any complicated legal terms or long passages of unreadable text. We've no desire to trick you into agreeing to something you might later regret.

We value your privacy as much as we do our own, so we're committed to keeping your personal information safe.

We're uncomfortable with the information companies, governments, and other organisations keep on file, so we ask for only the bare minimum from our customers. We'll never use your personal information for any reason other than why you gave it, and we'll never give anyone access to it unless we're forced to by law.

How we collect information

Whenever you request a page, your IP address, browser and version, operating system and the site you came from are stored in a log file. This information cannot be used to identify a specific individual. This information is only used for statistical purposes to help improve this site and provide accurate statistics to advertisers in the form of aggregated data.

Personal information is collected via our registration form.

There is a poll system on the homepage of website. By voting you are not disclosing any other information other then the answer to the question the poll asks. A vote cannot be traced to a specific individual, and hence your identity remains anonymous.

What information we hold

The following data is required on our registration form: Username, password, email address, first name, last name, and country of residence. There are other fields which enhance a user's profile on the site, but they are optional.

Where we store your information

Your private data is stored on our server hosted in Germany provided by a company called Hetzner.

What we use your information for

If you opt in to our weekly email newsletter, you will receive a newsletter on Wednesday morning (GMT).

If you opt in to our email news alerts, you will receive an email every time a news article is published on the website.

Users have the option to unsubcribe from the emails above by visiting the Edit profile page or contacting webmaster@holmesdale.net.

Some of the information collected during the registration process for the The Holmesdale Online is used to contact members in the event of a Forum rule violation. It can also be used to prevent banned users from re-registering under a different username.

Personal data collected from the registration process are not sold, or disclosed to a third party.

Who's responsible for your information at our company

Our webmaster is responsible for the security of your information. You can contact him by email at webmaster@holmesdale.net if you have any concerns about the information we store.

Who has access to information about you

When we store information in our own systems, only the people who need it have access. Our management team have access to everything you've provided, but individual employees have access to only what they need to do their job.

The steps we take to keep your information private

We restrict access to your private data to only to people who need it. We never use the same password twice.

Advertising

Online behavioral advertising ("OBA") and/or multi-site advertising is occurring on holmesdale.net

We partner with Snack Media to serve ads and/or collect certain information when you visit our website. Snack Media may use cookies or web beacons to collect non-personally identifiable information (e.g., click stream information, browser type, time and date, subject of advertisements clicked or scrolled over) during your visit to this website in order to help show advertisements on other websites likely to be more interesting to you.

These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to the advertisements and links that appear on www.holmesdale.net send directly to your browsers. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. Other technologies ( such as cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons ) may also be used by the third-party ad networks to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and / or to personalize the advertising content that you see.

www.holmesdale.net has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.

You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information on their practices as well as for instructions about how to opt-out of certain practices. www.holmesdale.net's privacy policy does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, such other advertisers or web sites.

LiveRamp

When you log into our website, we may share information that we collect from you, such as your email (in hashed, pseudonymous form), IP address, or information about your browser or operating system, with our partner LiveRamp.

LiveRamp uses this information to create an online identification code for the purpose of recognizing you on your device.

This code does not contain any of your identifiable personal data and cannot be used to re-identify you.

We place this code in our cookie and allow it to be used for online and cross-channel advertising.

It may be shared with our advertising partners and other third party advertising companies globally for the purpose of enabling interest-based content or targeted advertising throughout your online experience (e.g. web, email, connected devices, and in-app, etc).

These third parties may in turn use this code to link demographic or interest-based information you have provided in your interactions with them.

You have the right to express a choice regarding our sharing of this data with LiveRamp for the above purposes, of the creation of this code, or of our sharing of the code with our advertising partners.

When you use our website, we share information that we may collect from you, such as your email (in hashed, de-identified form), IP address or information about your browser or operating system, with our partner, LiveRamp Inc and its group companies ('LiveRamp').

LiveRamp may drop a cookie on your browser or directly in our emails and match your shared information to their on- and offline marketing databases and those of its advertising partners to create a link between your browser and information in those other databases.

Similarly, when you use our mobile apps, we may also share hashed and de-identified email addresses, mobile device ID, location data, and advertising identifiers with LiveRamp, which uses that information to create a link between your mobile device and its databases.

This link may be shared by our partners globally for the purpose of enabling interest- based content or advertising throughout your online experience (e.g. cross device, web, email and in app etc.) by third parties unaffiliated with our website.

These third parties may in turn link further demographic or interest-based information to your browser.

Lotame

With consent, we use data to:

  • analyse user cohorts and behaviours across our website; we build aggregated audiences around key attributes and behaviours.
  • facilitate targeted advertising on sites owned by SN&CK Media limited to provide relevant advertisements to you and to make effective use of advertising inventory.

We facilitate the above functions by using advertising technology providers:

LOTAME - data management platform, for the purpose of gaining audience insights and enabling consented audience data to be activated through our advertising platforms.

Lotame uses cookies and other identifiers to track online behavioural, demographic and technographic data; they don't receive information such as your name and email.

Lotame can also receive anonymous data segments that FLW sends, such as user IDs associated with people who have been registered members for a certain length of time.

Changes to the policy
