Crystal Palace have been linked with the signing of two defenders recently. One is Finnish centre-back Hannu Tihinen, who is on loan at West Ham at the moment. The other is Third Division side Southend star Leo Roget.

Eagles boss Alan Smith is looking to strengthen his defence after transfer listing veteran defender NEIL RUDDOCK.

It is reported that The Eagles are following Finnish centre-back Hannu Tihinen, who has impressed during his loan spell at West Ham.

Tihinen's loan spell ends this week but Hammers manager Haryy Redknapp is reported to be unwilling to meet the £3million asking price set by Tihinen's club Viking Stavanger.

Besides Palace also Middlesbrough are interested in the Finnish defender.

Tihinen's agent Juha Wallenlind said: "It is true Middlesbrough are keen. They are a very good club and we would consider any offer carefully."

Crystal Palace have also been linked with a move for Southend defender Leo Roget after he rejected the chance to join Peterborough United last week.

The 23 year-old Shrimpers star is out of contract, but a transfer tribunal wil have to decie a fee because Roget isn't yet entitled to a move under the Bosman ruling.
